Beyond reason "69" Jazz?

Cool bass, but IMO anyway the price feels high, considering the alterations. That's not exactly stuff you can "undo".

Plus the fact it's sans any sort of hardshell case, much less factory original, has to drop the value considerably I would think.

I really don't get the "added" rod. The 9v route can be reversed (slap wood in hole, refin that area, it's under the pickguard anyway), but installing a second metal rod on the treble side only ? What ?

I could see it if it were two carbon strips, but I doubt a steel rod that thin has any effect, apart from crapping on the resale value of the bass.

I don't know, I just have this thing about instruments being "altered". Especially if I was in the market for one this "vintage".

I'm sure it's a nice bass, but I just couldn't do it. It's one thing to replace the pickup, but routing out a hole for the battery. Of course it could be fixed. I could never do that to any of my basses.

Besides, if you look at the pic of the neck, it looks a little twisted to me. Could be the quality of the photo but I don't think so.

I contacted this seller today as he's not far from my apt. He's not accepting trades :spit:

He claims the finish is original. He sent me added pics posted below...he's also been trying to sell this for a few weeks now - maybe even a month or two...if I had 2k lying around, I'd offer that, probably.

Neck is a big question mark, IHMO. No way would anyone agree to a second rod unless the neck had issues.

The original truss nut is pretty much all the way in. I would skip this bass. Actually, I would run the other way. Get a Road Worn Jazz.

Have you gone over and played it yet? And is he desperate to sell it, or just looking to sell if he gets a decent price?

The matching headstock looks sweet, but I'd be a little wary of the bass as a whole.

hack job on the neck. It had more value before that extra ridiculous rod was added, at least it could have been professionally repaired. 69 jazz necks are thin and the binding reduces the amount of real wood on the neck. The nut is buried and the seller talks about "stability". He isn't forthcoming with the facts.
