Bring them back. I still enjoy the heavy amp but like my cabs light. The big cabs don't fit in my cars anymore.

But Im happy to use my little D Class amps that kick just as hard, when the load-in is a challenge.

It's great to have all these options that all sound great.

Plenty of people still schlepping the heavy iron. If that's what you like, rock it. Personally I'm happy to do more with less. There'll always be people hanging on to nostalgia in spite of objective technical improvements, and that's fine. There'll definitely continue to be big acts using dummy amps on stage; I wouldn't doubt if that comes back into vogue for rock acts (if it ever went out?).

To each its own. you play what makes you happy, but I'm bringing them back. I tried small rigs, going ampless, and nothing beats a big ass amp behind you. Sorry not sorry. I'm gigging every weekend bringing my Fender SB 300 and 2 4x10 cabs with great PA support.

Yeah. I'm not a smart man. Every 3 out of 4 weekends, usually twice per weekend, schlepping my heavy amp, and my D800 backup. But I'm still young. (63)

Fortunately, what I lack in intelligence I make up for in stubbornness.

I know Im in the minority, but I do think big amps will become fashionable again one day. Just like records have come back, kids will want to experience the real thing. There is something special that digital recreations cannot capture and just the feeling of moving that air cannot be truly mimicked. Prolly not 5 years but maybe 10. Thought?

Nope. Smaller amps can give just a big a sound as the back-breakers people used to haul around. There will always be a few that long for the beasts of yesteryear, and some folks probably have a firm belief set that nothing is "as good" (an undefined and usually undefinable term), but you'd go broke trying to sell amps to them. The light, powerful amps are winning the market.

A standard 410 is about 75lbs. 50lbs is a light weight cabinet.

Shoot, an average 212 guitar amp is like 80lbs, and the whole back of the cabinet's missing.

An Aguilar DB 751, an Ashdown Little Bastard or even the humble Ashdown CMT 15 "seems" to sound better………..

And most of my guitarists friends are shopping for a big tube amp these days, the Hughes & Kettner being the most praised.

my fender 410 neos are about 55 pounds each. to offset the 65 pounds of the SB

In this small niche market with a handful of manufacturers, it means they're going to focus on the stuff that sells.

You don't have to be an econ major to understand what a secondary (used) market flooded with dirt cheap last-gen heavy stuff means for the direction of the primary (new) market.

Is Mesa going to bring back the Prodigy and the Strategy 8:88? Did they not make some technological advancement by using a different alloy for the transformers so they can keep them light. The Prodigy 4:88 was under 30 lbs when I had one.
