Big cabs besides 8x10's

The old Trace 1524 and Greenboy Dually 2x15's look pretty fun, but I'm wondering how close to something like an Ampeg or Orange 8x10 they might sound.

Generally I use an OBC410, but it's heavy, and a lump. I think a taller, less deep cab that has some neo speakers would just be an easier thing to shift.

I'd consider a 2x10 / 1x15 setup but that seems like another can of worms. Anyway! Glad to meet you all!

Fender Bassman 100 4x12 front horn loaded cabinet. Notice a small port on the bottom of the cab. It just barely fit in my Toyota Corolla wagon, with the rear seat down. I could slide a bass case over the cab and put the amp head in the passenger seat. The horn design would throw the sound pretty far but standing next to it you could barely hear it.

That Eden set up remains my favorite. But, due to my age vs cabinet weight I found myself having to move on. I often wonder what an Eden 610 would sound like?

Any way...I experimented with Fender Rumble 210 + 115 stack powered by a Rumble 500 but that was far from what I wanted. So I sold the Rumble 500 and used the Eden WT400 to power the 210/115 stack which sounded surprisingly well! But they were on the edge on medium to large stages so...

I sold the Rumble cabinets to finance a Subway 210 & 115 stack. Which I am experimenting with thru the Eden WT400 for now. I would say that they will never fail me power wise and they do have a ton of low end but I'm still struggling with the piano like round would string high with out loosing the incredible lows. I can get this sound at low volume, no problem. But it's at high volume with a loud drummer and two loud guitar players that I have issues with Piano/round round string zing.

BUT...LOOK OUT... I bought a TT800...we'll see! I might have to get a SW112 to even things out!

Sorry for the long story but in the end the 410 is still my favorite all around small/big cabinet. I just can't lift it anymore. I did play a back line supplied gig with two 410's stacked, in fact I've done this several times and it was great, But that is a big/big cabinet as was the Acoustic 415.

I had the same Acoustic set up back in the early 80's. It was killer!! We had a weekend sit down gig for two years in South Florida, so I only had to move it a couple times when we booked a private on a Sunday. When I moved back up North, my situation changed and I sold it to a friend. I ended up playing lead guitar for the next 38 years, but now I'm back on bass and loving it. Current rig is a PJB M-500 with 2 C-9 cabs. It's amazing!!

Since you live in the UK , I'm surprised you haven't gone to Bass Direct and tried out the GR Bass line of cabs . They are amazing cabs , I bought a AT410 cab that is the best sounding cab I have ever heard IMHO .

Speaking of Phil Jones and big cabs, it was a long time dream of mine to acquire a Phil Jones 16H cab, because the specs looked interesting. Sixteen 5" speakers in a folded horn cab producing a frequency response of 20Hz-15KHz? The cab is unique, and probably more than most, I value uniqueness.

Then I learned that it weighs 220 pounds, and the dream died that day. I'd still love to play through one someday just to see what it's like.

Some amazing cabs in here!

The Berg NV215 looks great. The Crate looks cool too. I guess the 2x15s you guys are using sound pretty tight etc? Not lacking in top end at all?

Most cabs I have tried, I've tried when playing live. I live in London and most stores don't stock larger cabs. It takes up a lot of space for stock and people don't often buy them. I don't mind the idea of using 12's but I think I'd still enjoy having a cab that's physically large. I think the AD200 would poke over the sides of some of the compact 2x12".

No, I can't remember where exactly. Because i had the Sunn cabs. when I play a houseband gig in New Orleans (69-70). While I was down there i also saw and bought the first line of SVTs released. Then I came back to Topeka. But Steam wasn't in existence when I left for NOLA. I'm not sure if it was even open when I got back.
Warning, now ya got me reminiscing

Midwest music and the Bakers were as close to a R&R store as it got. But their business was built mainly on school band instruments and lessons at the time.
The hippest music store at the time was in Lawrence, but I can't remember it's name (no not Mass.) It was on a side street and it had an owner name Thumper (Stumper?). I think I still owe him for a bass I bought where there was a hole in the first fret from a truss rod accident (?) or something like that. It was screwed up, but it was a a broken mid 60s P-bass for $75. My dreams of saving it, futile.

OK; I'm from KCMO originally, saw you guys at Memorial Hall in KCKS with Aerosmith, but I never really made it to Topeka much. But I ended up buying(used)a Sunn head once that had a Steam sticker on it, so I thought that maybe they had the franchise over there. We had Toon Shop and Quigley's for Sunn. I'd go to Lawrence quite a bit for shows, there's that little shop, Richard's on 8th, was that the place you were thinking of? Then of course Mass Street Music. The owner, Jim Baggett, has been on Antiques Roadshow.

That was the name Richards, thanks. All I know back then was, there was all sorts of new equipment company's starting up. And I wanted to try it all. My only hindrance was I was broke. :)
