Double Bass Big Rig Suggestions-Stage Filling Sound

Size and portability are constraints, and as awesome as a 610/810 would be, it's frankly more than I need. I've sort of set a mental upper limit of a 410.
What "IS" a BIG-RIG? Is it measured by physical size, or ability to move a lot of air?

I do NOT get the placement of a refrigerator-amp-speaker behind the Double Bass. Why send the amp-sound back into the Doghouse? Counterintuitive.

FYI - This is never my DB Big Rig, only my BG set-up.
(My amp is an SWR SM-500, bridged mono) into this 85lb., DIY, rear-ported, EVM-15/BagEnd-10 w/compression driver/Fostex horn/BagEnd crossover. It does move a lot of air/hair.

Necrothread from 2014. And a DB thread, to boot. At this point, I am confident that the OP has figured it out, as I've seen him play with Rhiannon on numerous occasions in NY, DC and TN and his sound is tasty and huge.
Yes, my bad for raising the dead! A major motivation for posting was to hear from the OP about what he ended up going with. I'd love to know what he figured out!
Hey, sorry to check out for so long. I got pretty busy shortly thereafter. I ended up with a Markbass rig, with 2x10 on top and 1x15 on the bottom. I forget the size of the amp but it had a tube in it. It sounded great and only on rare occasions did I wish I was pushing a little more air. On foreign dates I backlined everything so I pretty much ran the gamut. SWR's worked pretty well but often seemed a little fragile. Ampegs never really grabbed me, something in the mids always seemed off a bit, either too scooped or too harsh. I tried a TecAmp rig for a BBC thing and really like it. I'm talking to a few folks about endorsements and I hope it works out with TecAmp. Their Puma series was extremely clear and transparent. We recorded the next album which will be released in February I'm told, again on Nonesuch records. I've also been told that the touring schedule is shaping up nicely with some opening slots for Bonnie Raitt...

Jason I'm sure you've learned a thing or three since 2014 but for what it's worth I noticed in the first vid you posted two years ago you're standing directly in front of the amp. Revisiting the subject of Mike Arnopol's cabs I recently started using a 1x10 MAS-109 and am impressed with how the mids you kinda need to hear yourself don't drop off much as you come off axis to the speaker the way most cabs do. It's really quite pronounced. My bass is in for a major overhaul so I've only used the MAS with the slab so far. In the past I've been able to get more volume by angling the speaker away from me....but often at the expense of some essential mids. Maybe Mike'll chime in here. I'd be interested in what he has to say about why this cab does what it does.

For me, the only Big Rig I've had that fills the stage with sound without feeling like its stupidly loud, is the Fender Super Bassman with either 610/410.

That could have been anything...random song, not hearing myself...who knows? I usually stand about 12 feet out front to avoid feedback and such. I'm still with Rhiannon Giddens but it's not the Chocolate Drops anymore.
Man if I sounded like I was telling you something you didn't know about where to stand I sure wasn't. You've got a lot more mileage on a lot more different stages than I do. Seeing that old clip just made me think of how much better the MAS cab functions off axis than anything I've heard.

You realize I'm entitled to hate you a little for this, right? Bonnie Raitt is my favorite musician on the planet.
Nothing to add except Jason must be a hell of bass player landing these gigs. I appreciate that some real pros slum around this corner of the internet and share their experiences with us weekend warriors.

! Regarding "pros", there are a lot of great players out there, some do it fir a living, some don't...but skill level varies for both. More and more I think being a pro is playing the right thing at the right time and knowing what that is in a moments notice. Being present and having the fundamentals to execute the line. So often it's about sound and placement....nobody needs you to play three-octave scales. They need THAT NOTE, RIGHT THERE..every time. It's humbling and challenging.
