Bill Bruford to stop performing live

I know I read somewhere Fripp is tone deaf. I have never seen him Suck.I believe you though.

Best was with his Loop tour with two Reel to Reels ten feet apart at a little record store in Cleveland

Fripp began playing guitar at the age of eleven.[5] He says he was tone deaf with no sense of rhythm when he started.[6] His comment on dealing with the obstacle is "Music so wishes to be heard that it sometimes calls on unlikely characters to give it voice."

So I guess he WAS tone deaf?

One thing is for sure someone is way off key in that clip.

I have a friend in London who sent me a add for a bed & Breakfast owned & operated by Fripp & his wife.

Thankfully I got to see him live once, with Yes on the "Union" tour (the classic Yes lineup combined with one of the later lineups) as well as a few live DVDs. one of the things that always impressed me was his economy of motion. Many drummers flail around like they're having a seizure but he never seemed to waste any motion and instead focused on playing oh so incredibly cleanly and controlled.

Neal Peart gets an awful lot of well-deserved praise but I think Bill Bruford is at an even higher level. I hope somewhere down the line he plays a few shows here and there and get to see him at least one more time.

It's called a log drum. There are tines cut into the top and tuned: Just take a flat piece of solid wood and cut tongues into it. You can tune it by sanding.

Bruford is good, no doubt, but I don't think he has anywhere near the level of innate ability to even play like Neil, let alone write parts like he does. Bruford is good though.

He's one of my very favorite drummers of all time.
I got to see him with Bruford, UK, Bruford/Moraz, King Crimson, and Yes. I'm sure he'll still play in some capacity, I guess just not in public. No one else mentioned the tour he did with Patrick Moraz, I can't be the only one here who saw that.

I saw the Bruford/Moraz tour, absolutely amazing. Saw him earlier that day give a clinic at a drum shop, he was amazing on a practice pad. Also saw him on the "Gradually Going Tornado" tour, with Earthworks, and many times with 80's Crimson.

As for comparing him and Peart? :rollno: I liked early Rush, a lot, but Peart is just a showboater compared to a player with the finesse of Bruford. IMHO and all that rot.

I have a video of the crims playing Discipline (where Bruford also used this box instrument) with interviews of Bruford and Fripp. He calls it something like an "African Siff drum".
I can't quite make out exactly what he is pronouncing for the "Siff" word. I just listened to it again, and just can't quite make it out.

It's an African Link Removed. As kraigo points out, it's allso known as a tongue drum.

+1000. Granted, your opinions are as important as anyone else's, but I've never come across anyone on any forum that poo poos as much on practically EVERYTHING that I like personally. Oh well, it takes all kinds to spin the globe. Cheers!
