Bill Lawrence P-46 Installed, now PJ pickups don't blend

Love my new P-46, just last week installed in my 2005 American Precision Deluxe 4-string.

I had a local tech install it, and have yet to touch bases with him, but thought I'd ask for advice from this forum in case it helps when I do call him tomorrow.

With the new pickup, the blend switch appears to no longer be working as a mixer. At the detent, the output drops to about half (and I really can't tell if it is a blended sound). On either side of the detent I get what sounds to be full neck or fill bridge sound.

Is this something anyone here has dealt with?

Sounds like the same issue with Fender-Seymour Duncan pups. In that case (out of phase??) SD diagrams/instructions suggest to reverse the Fender wires to the pot (white to ground, black to hot).

It's a 5 minutes operation, so nothing to lose if it does not work.

Yeah, try reversing the leads to the pot, it sounds like your pickups are out of phase.

Yup, defo out of phase pickups. Just reverse the leads on one of the pickups. If a tech really did this he's a complete idiot.

I have exactly same symptom, two volume pots , both all way on :volume drops.

Relacing my stock Squier with Bill Lawrence PB1 I noticed while I kept correct North/South magnets position , it was different side of the pickup wired as hot and ground compared with Squier pup, wired anyway as stock pickup then this tricky result.

Wire permutation seems to be the solution.

Reversed the wires, it fixed the problem.

I can notice anyhow both pups full volume gives a thiner sounding on the D and G strings, have to reduce a bit the bridge volume to recover a massive sound.

Already noticed this with previous pup but didn't pay attention.

Isn't it a phase question with each side of split P against the Jazz ?

No, it´s a humbucker, the DeLuxe Precision.

It seems there's something odd wit our split-P Precision pickups.

This pickup has the coils out of phase if I understand well the site below explanations.
As a result any single coil or humbucker connected with a split-P will be in phase with one coil (beefy tone), out of phase with the other (thin tone).
Only another split-P will combine with consistant result on each coil.

Is it correct ?

Youre mixing up polarity with with phase. Also beware, BLUSA are knock offs.

"Out of phase" is a common naming for reversing one coil polarity as shown in the schema. It goes off any specific Bill Lawrence design but deals with the original pickup design by Fender so it affects any make of the Precision pickup.
