Bill Lawrence P-46 Pickup mini review (BEST P Pickup I've EVER tried)!

I'd like to know this, too! I love the sound of the P46 in my VM Precision, but I've put an aged white pearl pg on it, and I was thinking that a cream-colored cover would look stunning in combination. Obviously, there are no aftermarket covers that will fit a (Wilde) Bill Lawrence pickup!

Anyone?

It seems the consensus is they do not do it.... I have an Olympic white precision with a walnut pickguard and chrome hardware. A black pickup looks hideous on it. I'm thinking a p46 and some ash trays are my best option

Unfortunately, it sounds like my best option is to try what funkbass recommended......fitting a chrome ashtray cover.

I liked showing off the fact that I had the distinctive look of a Bill Lawrence P46 pickup (the extra pole piece). I just can't abide the dissonance of the black pickup cover against the pearl white pickguard. The chrome pickup cover will tag off the bridge cover already on there, in addition to the knobs. Which, come to think of it, would look better now if they had white pearl domes!

I wouldn't give up the sound for anything, tho!

Wow, talk about timely. I was just going to do a search for an inexpensive P set for a 5 string headless bass project I am working on. I get on TB and this is the first thread I see. Based on all the rave reviews and low price of these pups I'll be ordering a set soon. I just love coming here. Thanks everyone.:hyper:

I use a P-46 on a 5 string….. It's a Warmoth route…. I kind of panicked when I saw the overlap on the A string, but I've had NO issues and I Love the sound…. there has been some discussion about not over lapping… but I experience no problems.

I would think that if you choose to paint, almost any acrylic paint from a hobby store would do the trick. There's a lot of selection of colors and cream shouldn't be a problem. Durability would be another issue, however. Any direct hits on the pickup would probably result in acrylic paint chipping off.

I haven't looked at bottles of paint for model cars in years. That paint is oil-based, and might be more durable painted on plastic. The trick would be finding the right cream color. If a good color was available, I might go that way, instead of using a chrome cover.

Hmmm....might be worth a trip to Hobby Lobby!

I don't see why not. Black pickup covers and white pickguards have been a mainstay for God knows how long, and that's because it's more aesthetically pleasing than white on white. Even if it is white pearl, chances are it'd look awful with a white pickup.

Contrast is a good thing.

Now, if you just want a completely white bass - white body, white guard, white pickups...well, that might be cool. Then again, the Jimmie Vaughan Strat has that sort of model, and it doesn't look very nice.

Missing from all the above is the "IMHO".

IMHO, I don't like the "contrast" between the black pickup cover and the aged white pearl pickguard. This is why I asked in the first place if the option was available. IMHO, a white pearl pickup cover on a white pearl pickguard would look good.

But that's for me to decide, and I promise not to afflict your eyeballs with such an objectionable vision when I find a color match in a paint that will hold up. :);):D

Thanks mark and marco for the paint suggestions!
