Bill Lawrence P-46 Pickup mini review (BEST P Pickup I've EVER tried)!

That too.

What I'm getting at is that I've heard that the pickups are wound a bit differently if you order the PJ set, versus one of the pickups alone. Now whether or not it's true, I dunno.

MMM.... I don't think this is so. I ordered all at once a P-46 and a P/J set, and I recieved the 3 pickups in individual packages inside one envelope. There was no indication that either P was different from the other.

It's my understanding that it's the J-45 that's would differently. The web site does indicate they're a matched set.

Just got my P-46 yesterday. WOW.

This pickup is ridiculous. I just eyeballed the height, which needs a little adjusting, but even still, this thing is clear as a bell and punchy as all get out. I had to file my pickguard to get it to fit, and I still need to take a bit more off as pickup height adjustments are difficult. Already though, it blows my Dimarzio Model P out of the water, for sure.

I'm using it with my Dimarzio Model J in the bridge, as I figured I could always try the combo out and if it didn't work, order the bridge J. Well, it works great. Together these two pickups get a very interesting, complicated sound.

I redid my wiring as well, used a Switchcraft 3 way switch, (which is a pain to get to fit in a P bass, by the way) CTS 250k volume pot with a variable treble bleed circuit, a Bourns 250k mini pot for tone, (as full size CTS pots don't seem to fit there on my body) with a .047 uF NOS PIO Russian cap. Loving this set up, lets me put the tone control parallel to the pickup, like a typical P, rather than parallel with the volume, like on a J.
