I had the pleasure of seeing him at G3 '03 with Vai, completely awesome. I love him because in addition to being an awesome player he is so funny, and he knows that he can't sing. I saw an interview with him where he said "I hope you guys buy my new album Compression, but I've got to warn you, I sing on it." Now I'm reading that interview for bassplying.com, and he lists his vocal influences as "Tortured animals, people in debilitating pain, wounded crows, and broken trombones." HAHAH! So true, I have Compression, it's a great album until he starts singing, then it's REALLY hard to listen to. I also saw this video on youtube where he pretended that he had to learn a complex Vai line 15 minutes before the show. He kept pretending to mess up and then changed his clothes so that he looked like his Tech, who then taught him how to play the song. Then he went on stage still unsure of his ability, when he pulled the lick off he looked back all confused as if to say "How did i do that?" Too funny. My signature is my favorite Sheehan quote. The quote came from this interview where he was talking about how irritated he gets when he asks people if they can hear bass, meaning bass frequencies, and they mistake it for the instrument and say yes, when really there is no bass present in the mix. He said he wished all guitars were called trebles so that guitarists would have to put up with the same crap that bassists put up with during soundchecks.
