Bio

How is this?
I was born, and raised in South Philadelphia Pa.

I started playing in the early 70s, playing everything from"Grand Funk Railroad to Tower of Power
Opening for such acts as; The Futures, Kool & the Gang, to most recently , Boney James, and Rachelle Ferrell.

I play for the joy of playing! I'm not trying to be the next Jacob, but the best me I can be!

My influences; James Jameson, Willie Weeks, Chuck Rainey, and Larry Graham!!

Hi,

I like the content of your text. It's to-the-point yet personal, and it's easy to read. There're some little things I'd fix.

  • The "I'm not..." bit is unnecessary in my opinion (why mention what you're not?)
  • I suggest you drop the !'s.
  • Also, the ";" is best left unused: you could substitute it with "include" in the last paragraph ("My influences include James Jamerson...") and just leave it out otherwise.
  • I don't know if that's how you meant it, but there seems to be a lot of stuff from your starting years ("I started playing in the early 70s, playing everything from Grand Funk Railroad to Tower of Power Opening for such acts as...") - but not much of what you've been doing since.

yours,

Enne

It's good and not much different than my background. I wish I could get around mentioning the 60's because it dates me.

Drop the semicolon, you're using it incorrectly.
Drop the "Jacob", nobody knows him. If you meant Jaco, drop him too. Hardly anyone (except bassists) would know to whom you are referring.

You could make it more personal...talk about coming up...

"In west Philadelphia born and raised, on the playground was where I spent most of my days; Chillin' out, maxin', relaxin' all cool, and all shootin some b-ball outside of school.

A couple of guys, who were up to no good, started making trouble in my neighborhood. I got in one little fight, and my mom got scared. She said "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air."

You might also use Phalex as a go-to reference.

You need to clean up a few grammatical errors.
Change the semicolon to a colon between "such as; The Futures".
Drop the comma between "everything from, Grand Funk".
Drop the comma between "born, and raised".
Drop the comma between "influences include, James"

Drop the semicolon, you're using it incorrectly.
Drop the "Jacob", nobody knows him. If you meant Jaco, drop him too. Hardly anyone (except bassists) would know to whom you are referring.

Naming bands from the 70s is risky. I grew up in Kool & The Gang territory in Jersey.I remember when they broke out and went national.

My point, and out here in the mid-west, it's 2013 and many won't know who Kool & The Gang is either. For a 21 year old, Kool & The Gang would be to old even for their parents.

A bio is, surprisingly, hard to write.

It should reflect your background, and be a good representation of who you are. I had to write one today for the new band I am playing with.

Good, bad, or otherwise, here is what I wrote about myself. You can see if it is something you might use.

Jerry- Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals

Growing up with two parents who were performing professional musicians, Jerry was exposed to live music from a very early age. He started playing music at the age of 8, starting with saxophone in his elementary school band, playing alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. He later moved to piano and synthesizer as a teenager, guitar after that, and eventually settling on, and performing professionally, as a bassist. He was professionally trained by Troy Price.

He has worked with many well known local musicians and has been a member of local bands such as The BluzDaddy Project, The Golden Road Band, TBD, and has occasionally worked with 2B Continewd, among others. He has also worked as a studio musician, providing bass guitar work for many local artists through various recording studios.

Driven by the principle that music should be fun and energetic, Jerry gives 110% at every show to ensure that everyone has a great time. For him, it's about the audience and he truly feels fortunate to have the privilege to perform for the crowd.

If you started in the 70s, you can't have started playing Bruno Mars :)

Again, drop the exclamation marks. One per text is fine, two is too many, and never more than one at the end of a sentence. (A friend of mine, a professional writer, has a rule of permitting themself five !'s a year.) All in all, your punctuation is still a little askew. Otherwise, it's getting better.

The reality is that a bio is something that has to be included in your promo kit, but it's rarely ever read, let alone read more than once. From a booker's perspective, many bios looks the same just with different numbers and names. In a practical sense, it's necessary fluff. Since it's fluff, I like to have fun with it.

Here's the my bio for my Ska/Swing/Funk band. If you want to read the bio for the band, you can check it out here: bio

Jive Jong - Guitar, Vocals
Jive Jong is an alien from outer space who hails from the planet Funk, where everyone jams and does martial arts. Because he was intergalactic royalty, the Jive one was the target of an assassination attempt. Luckily, he was sent off in an escape pod where he landed in the South Side of Chicago, and was raised by homeless Blues musicians. Jive Jong took to a variety of instruments - Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Harmonica, Drums, and Keyboard, in addition to dozens of alien instruments inaudible by the human ear. He has performed in Chicago and Colorado with acts such as Shirley King, Tab Benoit, Sugar Blue, Little Mary, and Smokin Tweed. But once he saw the state of the nation, Jive Jong decided to come to Washington DC to save the US from government corruption with his guitar. Jive Jong has performed with numerous local bands such as Cheap Date, Karma Issue, IandI Riddim, The Tonics, Lonesome Ryder, the Southern Drifers, the Fabulous Dialtones, the Black Cat Blues band, and Revolution. In his freetime, Jive Jong operates a consulting firm for K-Pop superstars.

I am the Richard.

I was born to sing. In fact, as soon as I started being born, I started screaming, and everyone started screaming for me to SHUT UP. I screamed all the louder, and never did shut up, and I peed myself, and just like that, the Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan Show. I continued like this all my life, and now I'm an over the hill classic rocker, who never gives a crap what the audience wants, as long I can play what I've rehearsed. The Beatles have been and gone, but I am still screaming. You'd have to be a complete idiot to hire me, and an even bigger one not to, because I will blow up your stuff. Plus, I know there's illegal substances at your bar, and you are most likely cheating on your wife. So give me the gig, and nobody gets hurt. Other than your customers' ears, of course.

Oh, and !!
