Thanks for the advice! I have half a dozen other basses with all sorts of switches and EQ's, so maybe just keep this one as it is.

Even though I like passive basses a lot, and go passive with the basses that have active/passive swtich, the Birdsong is my only "passive only" bass.

It is getting harder and harder to pick a favourite amongst the basses I have, but lucky for me I gig all the time (even in corona times) as I do everything from church to institutions, choir, big band and our "regular" band. So I need lots of different tones and can rotate a lot.

Tomorrow we are going to have a small consert for very old people at a nursing home. There I bring a Warwick Jack Bruce signature with TI-flats for some thumping old school bass sounds. Even though it is not my favourite music (songs from 1930's - 70's) it is very rewarding. Before christmas we had a concert for seniors who have had stroke and were chained to their weel chairs. Half of them had lost the ability to speak. Many of them started crying when we played, and then you really know what it mean to them. Especially now in these corona times.

Hello! Any quick pickup height tips or good starting points for the Lace Sensor Gold pickups going after a rather acoustic-like tone output? I understand that the Lace Sensor Gold pickups can get very close to the strings without negative magnetic effects, but what about tone qualities? Or is it simply volume affected with the height of these pickups? Hope this makes sense :-) Thank you!

Wish I could give substantive help. I've never adjusted my Sensor heights, only bridge-pickups. I want to say my memory was "pickup at fingerboard height" works well.

I love the Sensor on my 2007 fretless for exactly what you're describing - a more acoustic quality. That bass would be seeing more action right now if the fingerboard didn't need some professional attention (I wore some serious grooves in key spots on the board over 8 years of constant playing).

Best bet is to send an email or Facebook message to Scott. It's possible he has some paperwork or digital record of the build.

It's definitely a fusion model, or a variation of it. Built in 2009 and the 9th build of the fusion model. Looks like it has a varitone instead of the now standard tone knob, and the horns are shaped a little differently than they are now.

The X at the end of the serial number was his old way of indicating "custom" - now his "BX" numbering. It's more than customizing the wood - it's some fundamental change in the build.

For my 2nd Birdsong, it was 7C-077x - he numbered it as a Cortobass because it was Cortobass pickup config, but on a Fusion body. That has Fusion body AND pickups, so the "X" is because of that lower horn. I don't know I've seen that before.

Hi everyone! I posted in the wanted section, so not sure if this is ok to post here.

I am looking to add another Birdsong bass to my family. I am looking for a Corto 4 or Sahana with the single Delano pickup. I would consider a Corto as well.

Does anyone have a lead on a nice condition Birdsong bass for sale? Thanks

Just for fun... if your #1 is a Birdsong, what's your #2? If your #2 is a Birdsong, what's your #1?

I don't play out, mostly play on my own and jam with a guitar-playing friend once a week. So my needs are whatever I feel like playing :-)

These days, likely 90% of the time I play a 2010 Birdsong Skyrider. Love it! My #2 is a Fender Road Worn Flea signature. I know, I know very different instruments. But the Flea signature is so different from the Skyrider that is a pleasure to play that 10% of the time that I'm away from the Skyrider.

What's your #1 and #2?

Right now my one and only is the Birdsong Cbass pictured in my avatar.

I will soon be adding a Birdsong 5 string as the backup, but still plan on using the Cbass the vast majority of the time. I do have a fretless fusion model as well but don't really have a situation that calls for it, so I play it for fun. The fusion is the most satisfying of all the Birdsongs I've owned, just something about it.
