I just picked up my new Birdsong AC-1

Absolutely badass bass built with a few tweaks to my specs.

Slightly upsized body
31" scale
19mm spacing
No round overs on pickup cavities
Wormy korina body
Maple/wenge neck, side dots only
Wenge control and truss covers
Bolivian Rosewood fretboard
Nordstrand Polyvox pickup
CTS pots, .047uf Orange Drop cap
Hipshot hardware
7lbs 2.3oz total weight !

Jake knocked it out of the park on this bass ! I'm still adjusting to the scale length a bit, but the tones of the Polyvox pickup are phenomenal, and the wood types just came together beautifully!

Please excuse the knobs , they are just placeholders. I will be making some new ones in my lathe from some of the leftover Korina from the body.

C) We ship with either Curt Mangan nickel roundwounds 45-105, or D'Addario Chromes flats ECB-82 50-105. I LOVE those chromes, personally my favorite strings ever. And I standardized the strings we ship with so when we're hearing subtle differences bass to bass we know it's probably not the strings. Their influence is invisble to us at this point, same as always using the same amp and settings. Any differences are the bass itself and it helps us dial them in. Plus these string choices are just great and consistent over many years. Regular length, too. Like for a 34. It's always been that way, since 2004. Personally for me, it's the chromes on everything I have. (On my super short scales, the pocket basses, I use set ECB-81S.)

I think the used market in general is flooded. It used to be much easier to sell on this platform than it is now.

It also probably reflects that you can buy readily available, new, good quality mass-produced instruments for relatively cheap now. People think "why buy second hand and possibly inherit problems when I can get a really nice Sire, Ibanez, Squier etc with a warranty?". Same with the used car market these days … people always end up getting way less than it "should" be worth.

For me, I passed on a Fusion Fretless on Reverb that was most of what I wanted to order a custom that was exactly what I wanted.

Scott and Jake just get it. My Fusion is a very unusual spec but they listened and they honored my vision. They're creating the "vintage violin" feel that I didn't really articulate at the time but somehow they just knew what I wanted. And it's more than just aesthetics for me. This instrument will affect how I play which is ultimately what the project is all about. Love these guys!!

What bass stands are people using? I'm leaning towards picking up a K&M Memphis Pro, is anyone using one with their Birdsong? I just want to make sure there aren't any interactions between the padding material and the oil finish.
