Birdsong Club Pt 2

Hey all! Scott from Birdsong checking in on this year's Anniversary day! I moved it off of the 4th onto SUNDAY the 6th this year. Wanted to get on here sooner, but was busy with gigs and some travel. Anyway, I want to thank you all for now 21 YEARS of Birdsong, invite any questions (I'll keep checking in), and if you're looking for the experience, lots is happening and being offered today on the site - the Anniversary page is up, the news page is updated, my contact info is all over the place, and feel free to get in touch. I hope you all had a safe and warm 4th and are having a great weekend. I know lots of you have gigs, go feed the people with your good vibes. By the way, are any BIrdsong bass owners in the SF Bay Area?

I'd love to try one of Scott's basses with my wife, as we've been on the search for the perfect scale length.
I've been scratching my head, and his bass is probably closest to my ideal (comfortable, light, ergonomic, sounds good, good craftsmanship).

I'd be happy to bring over some homemade ice cream/gelato/sorbet for the pleasure of trying out the bass for a few minutes.

Wish I could help. I had family out there for a number of years, but they moved back to the East Coast. I'd have been totally game for a side quest while visiting them.

Anyone on here using TI Jazz Flats on a Birdsong and stringing them through the body?

I wanted to check on folks' experience with them before laying out any cash on them. I hear great reviews, but "stringing long-scale flats through a short scale bass body" doesn't come up in the strings forum as often as I'd like.

I use TI Jazz Flats on some of my basses. But on my Birdsong Cortobass I always thought GHS Precision Flats were a better match. No issues and I just cut the excess length. You could probably do the same with the TI's

They worked fine for me strung through on my Corto. I think I'm going back to them on that bass.

Thank you for the responses. @JayDA - that's what has steered me away from them historically and why I'm so hesitant to plop down the cash. At least I have the feeling now that if I get them, I shouldn't sweat string-breakage - just floppiness.

Does anyone have any success with the Labella Mustang flats strung-thru? I fell in love with the Deep Talkin' Flats. The string-thru at the bridge didn't get me, but the full-turn of un-silked string around the tuning peg caused the E string to pop mid-set this past Sunday. I'd stick with the Labellas if the Mustang set is long enough to string through and not have issues at the tuner.

I have TIJF324s on my custom odyssey-body fusion model, top-loaded. Have had them on for years. I think they're a great pairing for the bass. I have not tried the 344s or 345s strung through the body.

FWIW, I also have the TIJF 324s on a 28.6" scale Ibanez Mikro. And also on a 30.7" scale Nordstrand Acinonyx bass. No issues on either of those.

EDIT: It probably goes without saying that I play with a light touch

As a lifelong lover of short scales I've always been curious about Birdsongs. A few months ago this beauty showed up in GC so I didn't hesitate. It was listed as a Featherweight model and it sure is as it weighs next to nothing (which I love). I like how it's as complicated as a brick yet beautifully executed. Balances perfectly, plays effortlessly and sounds great. I wish I had this bass decades ago as I would have saved myself tons of money looking for "the one".

I'm getting ready to give it its springtime setup. Does anyone know the official measurements I should be shooting for?

Nice, a Featherbass! Those were experiments in just how light weight we could make one. Should be high 5 pound range or so. As for setup, put it how it feels best to your preferences - we've always shipped with "low as it'll go" setups and minimal relief unless requested otherwise, with 45-105 nickel roundwounds or 50-105 Chromes flats. Welcome to the family and let me know if you need anything. ~S.
