What bass stands are people using? I'm leaning towards picking up a K&M Memphis Pro, is anyone using one with their Birdsong? I just want to make sure there aren't any interactions between the padding material and the oil finish.

I use this one:

My two fretless Birdsongs have volume knobs but no tone knobs - I salute you for taking it to that next step. Fantastic!

Hi everyone, I've been following this thread for a while and happy to say I am the proud new owner of a 20th anniversary Cortobass, #1111. I've had it for a few weeks and have been absolutely enamored with it.

I've mostly played active basses, primarily Warwicks, for the past 25 years, and this is my first short scale electric bass. So it's been quite a departure from the norm for me. It's a game changer. The bass just feels right, and the tones I can get out of it are just perfect. I'm planning on making some YouTube videos with it so I'll keep you posted.

Also, you all were instrumental (no pun intended) in my decision to get a Birdsong. I've been hunting for a high quality short scale bass for a while, and this just spoke to me as soon as I saw it. I hopped on here to get some opinions , and you sealed the deal. Thanks for that!

What I love is that they feel better in the hand than they look. And they sound at least as good as they feel. And of course, they look *amazing*.

Well I've had the Fusion a few weeks now and am just blown away. I thought nothing could be better than my 2013 fretless Cortobass but I was wrong. This is better. The sound from it is just epic. It's a bass that looks so benign yet produces a huge voice from that single "home recipe" pickup Scott designed. The only downside of Birdsongs for me is that you kinda can't play anything else after you've experienced them. Nothing else is so comfortable… so damn PLAYABLE!! Oh well, there's worse things I guess

Edit: I thought about what I said above. "Better" implies there is something deficient in the Cortobass. No. It's brilliant at what it does. The Fusion just does things it can't do which for me at this point of my musical journey makes it relatively "better" … just not in an absolute sense. I hope that makes sense!

Birdsongs with flats ship with long scale medium gauge Chromes 50-105. Just curious if folks who like Chromes stick with those or switch to medium (or even short) scale Chromes eventually?

I got my Corto 2 years ago, strung it with those Chromes. I NEVER leave any strings on that long ever, and yet these still sound great. I'm hesitant to move to something different, but if I did I'd stick with the same set. They suit the Lace pu's very well.

I'm 99% sure the last time I tried this with a shorter set of chromes, the silk wouldn't clear the nut. I just stick with what works at this point, I have the long scale Chromes on 5 or 6 Birdsongs....and no complaints.

I have chrome flats on the Style B (the ones it came with), and tapewound on the Fusion (also the ones it came with), and don't intend to change them.

I mean, unless they break, and then I'll put an identical set on.

Yes, that happens with short scale Chromes but I've got a set of medium scale Chromes on a Cortobass at present and the silks clear the nut … they're lower tension though so I'm thinking of going back to the original long scale Chromes it came with. All the string manufacturers say don't do it, you'll unravel the string but as Scott/users here on TB say , they've done it for years without problems.
