Did you go with the PB body shape?

Sure did, I love that shape, and the edge contour. The whole thing with the black/white/black control cover and chrome hardware is just PERFECT.

While we're spilling beans...Scott is building me a 5 string with narrow spacing and an un-drilled control cavity. That I'm going to install an Aguilar OPB-3 in...sacrilege!

Has anyone asked Scott to include a Drop D tuner in your build? If so, how did it work out?

I have a drop-D tuner in my Corto bass. You can see the lever peeking out from the headstock in the photo I had posted a couple pages back. It was easy to have Scott put it on for a few dollars more (Don't forget, this one is strung right handed even though it is a lefty so it was no big deal finding one). What I have found is that it works better with flat wound strings on it. They have more tension than rounds. The flats seem to hold the D-tuning better, not so floppy.

My main request to Scott was to keep the weight down as best as he could. A little extra carve here and there, rear routed, etc...

I started with the PB body, before switching to the fusion and ended up settling on the Sadhana in part because he said it was a smaller body. Was going to use mahogany but he said the walnut would actually be a little lighter, and the darker aged walnut stain should hopefully make it look a bit like his EB3 on the website.

Really excited for this one!

I think what you mean is the standard LACE humbucker Scott uses in the bridge position. I think the Hum/Single Lace thing works great! I see no reason to mess with it, and I think it would look a bit weird aesthetically as well. The Model one is fairly new as a standard offering, it's been used here and there on Birdsong customs over the years, and in an SD Curlee or two. The only one I can think of in the bridge position is this one, owned by @BenWigler of the band Edensong.
I was just curious more than anything..I really want Scott's recipe of his original idea and don't think I'd actually go through with changing pups..(I'll save that for another build lol) I have seen the Talasman and heard it on some videos posted by Edensong..that's what got me thinking about the pup change.. it sounds amazing ! I also like the Delano that Scott uses,(the single pup model in the sweetspot).. which gets me thinking..I wonder what a single Model one would sound like in the Birdsong "sweetspot" ?..I have to stop ! it's a sickness LOL . I'll go broke buying every pup configuration I can think of..

Man, I'd be real nervous trying to flip a custom bass in this soft market. A guy on here sold a Clement single cut over the weekend for $950 that he just had built and delivered in early JULY for $2150.

Woah! That is quite a loss!

I've sold used Birdsong's, and obviously for less than new ones go for, but they were always a year or two old and I had something new either in the works with Scott or already in my possession. Most times it has worked out to something like sell an old one, pay a couple hundred for a new one. Obviously a loss overall but for me at least it beats having one that doesn't get played.

I hope someone snags that Corto2 since it is such a good deal for a used .

That Corto 2 has a couple of options on it, too! Rear routed controls, and body wood veneer headstock.
What a deal! That is the price of a standard Short bass or less!

Just wondering what amps/cab/combos you all are running your Birdsong's through?

We talk and share our basses so much, but never the rest of the gear.

I play my Cbass through a combo amp that has a DI to the FOH, essentially turning my amp into a monitor.

Usually a Fender Bassman 150. The tilt back feature is real nice, and the separate volume for the line out is crucial.

I am definitely interested in a Barefaced cab though, and either a Markbass head (since it has the line out volume feature I prefer) or perhaps a Barefaced amp since they do have plans to make one.

The rig I would like to run all the time....if I wasn't lazy: 2xAguilar DB-115 paired up with my Ashdown CTM-100 or Fender TBP-1 and matching power amp. Standing in front of it and feeling the air moving reminds me what playing this instrument is all about! But it weighs like 200 pounds.....

What I usually gig: Carvin MBE-15 and matching extension cab, weighs nothing and sounds fabulous, the compressor and "drive" knobs really make it versatile as hell. If I have FOH support, this is a no brainer.

OR a Hartke LH-1000 and one or two Hydrive 410 cabs, this rig sounds killer, but it likes to be opened up and run LOUD. Sound guys usually hate it, nice for outdoor shows though.

Scott seems to like GK stuff, which makes me want to get an old school 800RB, just to see if it's a match made in heaven.

What are you guys running?

I also have a GK MB112. Bought it because it is about half the weight of my Fender Bassman. It is the combo I use for practice with the band and at home.
Didn't realize how much I love the line out volume control for FOH until I used the GK, which doesn't have one, so I stick with the Fender for gigs with FOH.

Fender Rumble 100 combo and Ampeg V4-B into two SVT112 cabs
No band but I jam with my two boys. Maybe we'll be good enough to be called a band someday.

I was running a GK MB500 though a Bag End 112 cab with a Faital (Genz Benz) 350W speaker in it for my stage rig. My wife (piano/keys) and I auditioned for our new church's band in March. The drummer and the band leader LOVED the thumping, lead from below tone ! I say was, because the church just a few weeks ago went full on house PA w/ IEM. So.....no amps on stage any more. I am still getting compliments from the band leader about the woody, clear tone, that somehow still has thump, though.

That Corto 2 bass is in need of some repair, I asked the owner for additional pictures and the Nut for one needs to be replaced but the rest looks O.K.

The nut is a fairly easy fix for a Birdsong as they're made with the zero fret. It doesn't have to be as exact as a regular nut. Scott may even make one for you.

Scott made a nut for me for my used Fusion Lefty-strung-Righty conversion. It was under $30. I just had to sand it down a little to the correct height. jm, as you say, this was easy as with a zero fret, this was not a precision operation.

I'm close to popping for a birdsong Corto 2, what are the advantages? easier reach for my old fingers? I have a American P and a custom 34in.

Definitely easier reach. The neck is a little further in on Birdsong's, so the reach is shorter and the balance is better. Lightweight too! Scott could definitely get you something down around 7lbs if you needed him to (if that's your thing).

They have a big tone for such a small bass. I almost never need to tune mine either after setting it at the start of a gig.

What kind of sound are you looking for, and what is it about the Corto2 that drew you in? I've owned a few models, including the 2, as have plenty others here. Any questions just keep asking!

I'm looking for a P bass sound, I have an active but like the passive better. Mostly I want to be able3 to reach the frets with lagato instead of jumping to the next one at the lower end of the scale. My fingers arent what they used to be.
