Birdsong Club Pt 2

If that's the case, definitely go for the CBass. Scott used an old Fender P Bass ('73 I think?) to dial in the tone. I just got a CBass from Birdsong and the bass is awesome. He uses a DiMarzio P pickup, which when at full blast with the tone open has a little bite to it and cuts through the mix really well. Roll the tone back and it warms up so much, nails that Motown/Soul sound.

I've been using the CBass with two different projects and the response has been great from band members and sound techs.

I would definitely recommend talking to Scott at some point too if you haven't already. He is great to work with.

C-Bass all the way, I just got my second P-equipped Birdsong last month, and it NAILS it. I agree with the post above me....Call Scott, he loves to talk gear and will steer you right.

My Corto 4 goes through a Genz Shuttle 3.0 and a little Eden EX112, and at church direct from the Genz to the mixer and Shure in-ears.

I played a gig this past weekend and the sound guys were asking about my CBass. They loved the look and sound of it, and last night when practicing with a group of friends the drummer just randomly blurts out "That bass is awesome to look at". He had previously complimented the sound as well.

Whether it's the look or sound, Birdsong's sure are attention grabbers!

They are. Mine looks so nice that my wife doesn't mind me leaving it in the stand in the dinette all the time. She might actually complain if I put it back in the case.

Now, the horde of pedals nearby might be an issue. :-)

It was easy to have Scott put it on for a few dollars more (Don't forget, this one is strung right handed even though it is a lefty so it was no big deal finding one). What I have found is that it works better with flat wound strings on it. They have more tension than rounds. The flats seem to hold the D-tuning better, not so floppy.

Do any Birdsong Club members use Carvin equipment? How does it sound? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a BX700/BRX10.2 rig. I'm working up a Corto Bass similar to #283 (youtube link). This will take a while due to some family issues, but I can swing the rig now. I'm def an Internet Birdsong stalker and I physically force myself to refrain from badgering Scott multiple times a day. I can manage it down to like once a month. Currently. I'm fighting the urge to ask him if I can be the guy who rubs oil on the basses. I would like that. I spoon with my bass. I'm a wreck.

While we're talking, I have some other issues you may be able to help with; once I start playing Chameleon, I just can't stop. I CAN NOT STOP. I'm a mess. It goes on until I can't play anymore. Then, I read all kinds of posts on TalkBass and look at equipment. Then, my hand is feeling better and it starts all over again. I'm getting very little else done these days.

Also, can I be a mascot or like a waterboy (Blazing Saddles had a kind of pi__ boy), or some sort of sub-sub Birdsong Club member?

1.) I have a Carvin PA powered mixer that I use for small acoustic open-mic-type stuff occasionally. I usually run my amp DI into it if I'm running a cabinet smaller than a 1x12. I've heard good things about the Carvin bass gear and have seen a number of local bands use it with some success.

2.) The only rule for membership is "having placed an order with Scott" or awaiting delivery of a used Birdsong (or affiliated instrument, including SD Curlee). As for sub-club membership - I won't assign a number yet, but call yourself anything you'd like - I can't stop you and wouldn't if I could. As far as I'm concerned, you're part of the family either way.

I've always found Carvin equipment quite decent for the money, some of it is down right unbelievable. I have an MB115 and 115 extension I use all the time, it weighs nothing, and punches well above it's price point.
I don't think you can go wrong with the rig you're looking at, but you're going to want another 210 eventually...might just consider grabbing the 410 and getting it over with. That rig would handle pretty much anything you could throw at it.

Ha, I know that feeling, the only cure is more Birdsong! I like that Corto, you going to go with Dual Humbuckers?

Thanks acleex38 and JayDA! Definitely going with the Dual Humbuckers. The only prob is I have not seen a Birdsong I didn't want. I read here in the Birdsong Club of a Humbucker with a P - also interesting. Sorry if my first post is a little crazed - In reality, I'm prolly only half that crazed.

I'm fortunate that I live close enough that I can get to Wimberley - and that is the plan.
