10 months and it's still misssing frets!?!?!?
JK - beautiful bass. I'm thinking I need a thumb rest on my Cortobass but ebony would not work. Mahogany maybe?
I love a plain fretless finger board. That was my first request to Scott the rest all fell into place later
I had one of the local luthiers carve up a piece of Ebony and mount the thumb rest in the same screw holes as the pickups then plug the screw holes. The rest is mounted off the bass body it also sits lower than the E string. I saved the original gold screws so I can remove the thumb rest and replace the screws and there would be no evidence of a thumb rest.

I thought about one for my CBass, but ultimately decided I want the well played finger wear look to happen. So far, so good!
We're doing a Swamp Ash Corto-based body, dual pickups, fretted rosewood, and black hardware. I picked up one of the 13th Anniversary Shortbasses in July and lucked into a gently-used fretless mahogany Shortbass a year ago so I'm pretty much going all Birdsong. I've played guitar for decades and have been focusing on bass for the last 18 months and the Birdsongs are just amazing - they have helped me make the transition from guitar really nicely.
Got this 5 string which was a custom build but not taken so it was available. I'm must say the B string exceeded what I was expecting. Really like it a lot

So over the long weekend I gradually broke out most of my "other" basses to give them a try seeing as I haven't played anything but the Birdsong since taking delivery in early July.
All I can say is, Scott has ruined other basses for me. My Warmoth is too noisy (I will try lowering the pups to see if that helps next time I try it). The neck on my Ibby doesn't slide as well under my fingers. I had some success with my MIA Standard Jazz but I can't fret nearly as fast on it when trying to play Black Dog.
I feel like I'm headed towards a gradual replacement of the stable with all Birdsong's. Has anyone else gone down that path? Hopefully Scott isn't planning on retiring anytime soon.

Scott ruined me a long time ago, I'm all Birdsong all the time.....7 in the house and 2 more on order!
There are 2'of us that play bass at church and the other guy borrows one of my birdsong every time he plays, he has a fender which is nice but I think he has only played it once. I need to start charging him rent.
