I've been having fun with the cortobass strung piccolo... I like the sound even with the stock EMG pickup it has... My playing on the other hand... :eyebrow: (But then it's a lot better than me trying to play guitar).

I've also had some fun by tying a condenser mic (with a flat bottom, the kind that goes on conference call tables) to the back of my sadhana, to try to get a woody acoustic sound from the bare mahogany...
Yeah i know, more practice... ;)

Oh - while I currently lack pictures as I've only just received notification, Birdsong guitar EJ-002 has arrived. My guitarist Levi received it at his office. No news other than that.

It is, in a nutshell, the same basic shape as the prototype shown at [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] except the curve on the bottom is a little different, there is only the humbucker (no single coil next to it), and the wood is a gorgeous piece of mesquite with a Zia sun symbol woodburned on the "upper horn."

Has scott changed the "spec" to one pickup, or was that just a request from your guitarist? I'd love to see as well as hear it! Birdsong should update their sound samples to include the EJ and 5 string... And the mesquito for that matter!

Scott didn't change the spec - but he's already built one guitar (a 12-string) for Levi and we played with Scott at the gathering in April, so he knew more of what Levi was looking for. The additional single coil wouldn't have given Levi more of what he wanted/needed tonally. So Scott and Levi decided that "single neck humbucker" was the correct approach for Levi.

Hopefully, there will be a picture of it in Levi's hands after tomorrow night. Until then...

Levi, 2 weeks ago, playing "The King" - his mesquite 12-string guitar, made from the same plank of mesquite as EJ-002. Ben - I believe your Mesquito came from that plank of wood (or the other one bought on the same shopping trip).

Nice... I take it that was an "off the record" custom? (the 12 string).. I mean it's not a model Birdsong typically would make...?

It was one of the last of the "one offs" before business got so busy for Scott that he had to say "no more one-offs." Levi got in contact with Scott right as I was ordering my first bass from them and got Scott's attention with "I'd like an electric 12-string made of mesquite."

It was also funny how Scott had to build it to Levi's size (6'3", 290 lbs) while Scott is like...5'4" with small hands - Scott was designing it from across the country having never met Levi in person.

It can (on the right setting) sound more like it's acoustic counterpart than any electric solid-body I've ever heard. It's an awesome piece of work. It's also MASSIVE, but really thin to keep it from being too heavy.

I'm off to see/hear EJ-002 for the first time - have a good night, everybody.

Awesome CTB!

I love the piece of mahogany in that body, I think admiring that one helped influence me to buy #18 (quite a different piece of mahogany of course, but still :)

Should be an amazing bass!

I know I have already said that... I just like saying it. I will say it again. Just wait til I HAVE ordered it... Imagine how much more annoyin gI will be when I HAVE it!:scowl:
