You're right - sorry! The guys in the band doing the mixing have been struggling to find time to get together the last few weeks because of other commitments. It's a bummer for me as well 'cos I'm dying to hear how the session came out.

I'll have another go at recording this bass myself later today and see what I can come up with. Check back later!

EDIT Better make that later this week... work work work work work work work :bawl:

Okay, here they are at last – some clips. Apologies for the delay (life took over!), the quality (best I can do with my humble setup) and the playing (just did what came naturally, haven’t bothered to polish it up).

All the clips were recorded with the J-Retro on but bass/mid/treble all set flat, pickup blend set 50:50. There’s some distortion on the peaks, because I’m no engineer. Again, sorry ‘bout that.

I still din't know how one gets to play that fast.......more practise, I suppose.

Great sound. I like to hear the 'break-up' of the bass when you dig in; something that you don't usually get to hear when sound clips are done.

The slap sound is very Jazzy, but with a bit more clarity. One presumes that the graphite neck may have a part to play there.

Yes, Tom, it's pretty versatile. I can nail most J tones (as you might expect), it'll do a good P impersonation with neck pickup only, the EQ on the J-Retro is excellent and it slaps like a beaut. I have a fairly wide range of influences and styles I like to play and this copes with most better than I thought one instrument could, honestly - if I could only keep one, this would be it. It's the nearest I've got to a "do everything" bass. Now I just need to work harder at being a "do everything" bassist. :(

I'm not a fan of gold hardware, but WOW that burst is nice. I love a good green/blue burst.

Nice sound clips in there Bill :).

It sounds very similar to mine, except that I'm using the Sadowsky outboard preamp pedal and that really adds a lot of "Sadowsky colour" to the basic sound.

These "Graphite Super-Js" are so instinctively "right" and sound so awsome for funk/slap, that I really think it's about time that someone started producing them commercially (Rob Green, I'm looking at you, here :eyebrow:), don't you think?

Still, if not, they're easy enough to produce as DIY basses, thanks to the mighty Warmoth/WD Music etc. suppliers.

Here's my baby (and new "go to" bass :D), just for the record.

Rob Green still does the T bass and the vintage series, but for me these aren't quite close enough to being a "Fender" style bass - I'm sure Rob deliberately went off in that direction.

I really wanted something that was as close to a Jazz as I could get, with a Status graphite neck and my own choice of top notch electronics/hardware. That's what pushed me to do these two projects.
