portaflexer, if you don't mind, could you post some close-up shots of the ERGO? I'd like to compare it to mine since at first glance they are identical.

wow that looks so much better than mine. the nut is much more robust (mine is VERY thin) and the bridge looks great. it almost looks like a different wood than what mine is made of.
Jesse has been making a lot of detail improvements as he goes along. He does not always announce them to the public. When I asked him about doing a more rounded neck profile for me a couple of months ago he responded that he can't afford to do customs and still make instruments at the sort of prices he charges - BUT-

This is the sort of thing he does. When he thinks something is an improvement and it does not effect the cost, he just goes ahead and does it without a whole lot of fanfare.

yeah, my 7 seven string is a whole other instrument than my 6, much more refined. The thicker nut is great, I broke the B string slot of my 6 string on a particularly agressive gig. It still worked, though.

I agree that for what they are they are not exactly cheap nor are they cheap for most folks budgets' including my own. I'm just passing on what Jesse emailed to me. It is up to him to calculate his costs, margins, projected sales etc and set his price.
BTW: Portaflexer, please go easy and slowly at first. Don't want to cause any long term damage.....Enjoy

I know it may be kind of difficult to photograph, but after theSuzie posted about the rounder neck, I'm interested to see if your's has the usual soft "V" type neck or if your's is rounder. As much as I've tried to get used the V neck, i'm still having a hard time with it and would love the idea of an Ergo with a rounder neck.

I meant not "cheaply(poorly) made". They are extremely cheap to have a workable double bass at those prices, but he makes them really well.
The corners cut (strings/stand) are very easy and reasonable to upgrade.
More than likely you are squeezing, which you have to do for BG, and should never do with DB. You should really track down a classical DB player to get some lessons from.
If you are just using the left thumb for stability the neck won't make much difference.
i've had a couple of DB players give me some pointers on how to properly position my left hand. i have my thumb on the "point", if you will, of the V. I don't wrap my thumb all away around the neck. All I know is I've played DB's and EUB's with the rounder C style neck and it was much more comfortable. BTW, I emailed Jesse about his refinements and he said that while the exact shape of the neck will vary, he hasn't done a V neck in a while. I guess I should have waited and bought a new one instead of a used one. oh well, live and learn.
Pointers and lessons are a big difference. If you want a double bass sound and feel you have to start from scratch and re-learn everything.

Yeah... I'm figuring out already that there is a lot of difference. The attack is different, the pressure on the string, and so on. I've done some reading and asked a few questions, but I think some lessons would probably do me some good. In the mean time... any advice is appreaciated.
