BL just fired the drummer

Hmmm, I just browsed to the end looking for more info from the OP. Nothing solid yet, only 1 minute wasted. Now I can go on and waste my time on other things.

I think that the BL will confront the drummer and say, "We can't have you in the band because of _________." Then see how the drummer reacts.

I think your BL is badly mishandling this. If she really is, in fact, the band leader, then she owes no one an explanation and should keep her reasons to herself

Exactly. If she does end up confronting the drummer in front of everyone to 'see how he reacts' (a situation which the Dalai Lama could probably handle) she made a mistake. If she is in fact the BL.

I think I know what you mean, something like 'telling an addict to just pull up his bootstraps and stop being so weak and quit is useless'. Which is true 99% of the time. But I don't know that talk therapy useless for addicts.

OP, did BL get back to you about the reason?

Depending on the severity of the offense and I am sure it is bad, I may be rather vague with my answer.

BTW, I am sure that I speak for the BL and the rest of the band when I say we all feel really horrible about this incident....bad that we are losing a valuable team member and bad for the drummer whatever he is going through.

As a side note, I got let go from a company once and was never told the reason. This is unfair to the person being fired. At least tell them what they did wrong so they can possibly correct the situation at their next job. For example if I was always late for work (and I was not) then I would be sure to be on time at my next job.

Oh, and the BL hired back a previous drummer. He had to be let go because work schedule interfered with rehearsals and gigs. Now that he is no longer working the night shift and weekends he can play with us.

So much fake news out there these days, it's easy to have a reputation damaged beyond repair based on very little.

And it gets around a lot faster these days... Happened to me nearly 20 years ago...

There are different degrees of addiction. Some people will respond to 'the talk' depending on how much they value the addiction vs what they stand to lose. Do you think people get addicted overnight? Many have looked down from the precipitous and either decided to step back or jump in. Of course it's not going to work with everybody, but without any emotional support people are almost certainly more likely to keep going on the path they're on.

I think you may have just discovered the real reason for the firing.

(heavy sigh) Oh well. He was a good drummer but we had issues with starting songs too fast and overplaying.

The BL said it was personal reasons. BL said that she had learned of some disturbing information from a reliable source. BL will tell me later.

I have no clue what it could be. I am usually perceptive as to people with issues and I did not see anything in his personality that would lead me to believe he had any. He does not drink and I never sensed any impairment because of drugs. He has a good personality and got along with everyone and was early to gigs/rehearsal.

It must be pretty serious because the band cannot afford to lose a drummer with our gigs coming up.

Having played with a "functional heroin addict" for several years before finding out, your experience doesn't surprise me and I'm pretty "situationally aware" on most things.
