Black Bass Pickguard Color

I was going to suggest leaving black, as that is my preference, however, the more people change out their black PG's, the more unique my bass appears. So I suggest getting a slice of tortloaf, and popping that onto your bass.

After black, red tort is my favourite on black.

If you go with tort I'll just say get real tort, not photo print (faux) tort. The faux tort isn't as sharp and crisp as the real thing.

This is faux tort on a Fender Elite I had.

My preference on black would be red tort vs brown.

I thought the black/white/black guard on this Fender Blacktop Jazz looked a little too plain, so I attacked the pinstripe with a Sharpie marker. Once it dried thoroughly, I burnished off the excess ink with a dry paper towel, then I reattached it with some black screws.

…and after!

And violá! Now it just pops right out at you. No endless digging around online for a match or laser-cut templates sent to a custom pickguard manufacturer…just some pickguard screws and a few minutes of careful work.

I also did a b/w/b guard using a dark blue Sharpie. The neat thing about the blue is that when strong light or natural sunlight hits it, it gets a blue/purple scarab effect. I'll post some pics when my parts-bass project (aka "Projekt Blue") is completed.

Brass is cool!!

I had this one custom made for me. He chemically aged it to look all old and stuff. It also seems to wear fairly quickly where your hands rest on it. Which is also pretty cool.

I was going for a pseudo anodized gold pickguard, but more rock n' roller

+1 on that, black and chrome is a killer look. Black and Tort is a bit played out these days.
