Black beauties - G string less "bright" than lower pitch strings

I got some Black Beauty strings put on my bass. In general the tone is very bright, beefy, powerful etc... attacking with fingers sounds very much like slap. However, the G string, and somewhat the D string are muted and soft sounding. I'm really used to my higher pitched strings being the most clear and bright in tone.

The new strings were put on by a store that was doing repairs, and it looks like my G string's action is a little higher than the other strings and maybe higher than what it was before they did work. Could the higher action be responsible for my issue? Thanks.

I had the same issue 2 weeks ago with a new st. G string was dead out of the pack. I contacted DR and they replaced the set. I will leave the Black beauties alone now. That was the second time it happened.

Whenever they started screwing around with the formula they screwed the tone as well. I used to like their coated strings, now I won't waste money on them anymore. The last 3 sets I bought were awful.
