I love black hardware...chrome to me is just generic....everybody puts chrome hardware on everything. I sometimes wish they would come in a variety of colors.....it would be great to have the option of white, blue, red, green etc.

I'm in the process of switching all of my basses over to black, and black chrome hardware....

so you know my vote go black...and never look back

control plate: no...

but I think tuners should match the bridge... so yeah tuners should be black too

Ordinarily I agree tuners should match the bridge...but when you throw a control plate into the mix, I have to go with the All Hardware Should Match club, and so I vote Yes to either

1) black control plate & tuners to match that bridge; or
2) change the bridge to a chrome one to match the existing control plate & tuners

I'm not sure if I have a preference of black versus chrome, but I definitely prefer matching hardware.

Hmmm, I like black too, but there IS such a thing as too much black. That said, IF you decide to put on the black control plate, I would suggest that you go with chrome knobs. What makes black stand out (or off) is contrast. The knobs need to contrast with the control plate, IMO. otherwise you just get a big mass of whatever.

I will also say that I myself have a sunburst SX SJB-75 4+1 that has a black bridge, silver control plate with black knobs and silver tuners (just so you get the picture it also has a maple neck with black blocks). The fact that the tuners are so far removed from the body means that having it not match the bridge is no big deal, IMO. And on mine the tuner knobs match my control knobs, which, as I said, are chrome.

There are no rules, and you will be the final authority on what you want, and no matter what opinions you get from us don't be afraid ot use your own eye and judgment!

Yes, of course....they go with the bass....like these:

And yes, black hardware can be VERY nice and not look cheap...here's the black Guild bridge on that same bass. Note that the strings are black Fender tapewounds. I do have to change that cable jack to black, though....
