Black Widows or Scorpions?

I have an old Peavey 2x15 on the way that I got cheap off ebay. In the pic the speakers looked like the edges (as seen from the front) were squared off instead of round. I've seen those before in lots of Peavey cabs but I don't know what they are. I've had Black Widows before and they all were round. Probably going to swap them out regardless.

indeed, the "square" speakers are scorpions.

dont discount them until you hear the cab. the 15's are *not* designed for guitar, and in fact they would suck in that application, IMHO. true, they wont take a butt-load of power. but i think they sound quite good for bass guitar in the right box--- articulate but warm--- important attributes to my quest for tone... i am a black widow guy too, but i feel like the scorpions are far from suck-land (again, in the right box, just like every other speaker in the world).

someone will probably tell you how badly they suck in the next post or two.

Eh, I always liked the Scorpion better for bass. Sure, it's not as robust, but if you take care of your stuff that's not an issue. And the 15" Scorpion is a much punchier 15 than the BW. They have a better "fist in the chest" thump around 125 Hz than the BW, and thats a LOT more useful to me on stage than the low end cushion of the BW.
