I thought that reason for bringing two basses was to bring the boutique one you absolutely love to play and the P-Bass that the band or producer says they want you to play (and then just root notes most of the times).

Well, it’s easier to bury the P-Bass deep into the mix. So you really need to be considerate.
Been playing only in churches for about 15 years now. With Covid going on our church praise band was gradually getting smaller and smaller. Two of our members (Drums and keys) got it and had to sit out a month. Musically that hurt. Then my wife and I had a 'too close for comfort' situation where we thought for sure we were exposed but we missed it by a few hours. Anyway I let the BL know I'm too old to play with germs so we've been watching from home for many months now. Our BL and his wife are it - everyone else either backed out or were told to just be safe. Anyway I really feel for the two of them because they really shine with they are with a group and right now they are struggling. I don't know if they miss me but I sure miss everyone else in the band.

Several had commented about what we take to play on if we are a volunteer who never gets paid. I take the best I own when I play. My Warwick 5-string was not cheap. My Phil Jones cabs and GK amp were not cheap. I sold all my heavy tube gear and big boxes with big speakers two years ago. But when I had 'em I used 'em - yes at a small country church. The better my gear the better I play. My two cents. Doctor next time I'm in St Louis I may come and enjoy listening and taking you out to lunch.
Doing more of an Urban Gospel sound this week.
