I sat in for a tune at the tail end of a friend's gig last night. I've been playing for 5 years or so now, but I've been taking some time off of playing regularly in order to address some postural issues that I've had for years; I just recently realized the full extent of these issues. But that's not the issue here, as the posture is getting much better and I'm getting in better shape every day.
The issue is that due to my reduced playing schedule, my finger was not as ready to swing as the rest of my body. During the course of this one tune, my finger formed and popped a blood blister on my friend's bass. I was extremely relaxed and playing light, so I didn't actually notice anything out of the ordinary until I felt my finger slipping. I figured it was just "blister juice" until I looked down to see blood on the strings, fingerboard and, best of all, plenty of little drops on the bridge and the body. By the time any of this was noticed, the damage was done so I said screw it, let's at least finish this tune before we shut the gig down. Luckily he has a laminate bass with a real shiny finish so cleaning everything except the bridge was a piece of cake. However, I couldn't scrub all the blood from the bridge, so it's still covered with faint little specks. I'm wondering if there is some product/chemical/whatever I can use to get these spots out. Some woman at the club suggested hydrogen peroxide, but I'm not gonna put anything on my boy's bridge until I'm sure it won't hurt more than it helps.
So does anyone know a safe product to get blood spots out of bridge wood?
