Maker of the ButtCradle, stool cover for Double Bassists
I just moved to Bloomington, IN to do my Master's degree with Professor Hurst. I have noticed a few Bloomington students on this website, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a luthier? My bass definately isn't used to this humidity (coming from Minnesota) and my bow needs to be rehaired.
Thanks!
Ashley

I can't speak for everyone, but many of us just hop in the car and head to Cincinnati. Andy Stetson and his Cincinnati Bass Cellar is the largest bass operation around here and they do good work; Nick Lloyd is in Cinci and he does excellent work in addition to building very fine instruments; and Bill Lakeberg is one of the best-kept secrets in bass luthierie around (he's in Ft. Wright, KY, just across the river from Cinci).

There are two places in Indianapolis, Frank's Violins and another one downtown whose name escapes me. I haven't had experience with either, but there's probably a reason for that.

As for bow rehairs, there's only one guy in Bloomington whose work comes recommended--I just wrote to a former student here to get his contact info because I too need a rehair and have in the past only used the local guys/shops who do NOT come recommended. Send me a PM and I can give you the contact information for as many of these people as I can.

And welcome to Bloomington!
