Double Bass Blossom Dearie anyone?

Not sure where to post this, but I just discovered this incredible singer/pianist. She was first active in the 1950's, and did a bunch of records with Verve. When I was starting out, the "cats" would tell me to listen to Sinatra albums to learn my standards. I wish I had known about her then. She plays all the standards and with subtlety and class. I've been listening to nothing else for days. I can't believe I'd never heard of her before!
Here is "I'm Hip", which is extremely hip!

Such a strange little voice but an incredibly musical performer, very well-respected by her peers. There's more than a little owed by Diana Krall to Blossom--and not just "Peel Me A Grape". This one's a personal favourite.



And, yeah, that was her real name.

Love her! Another good comparison is hers and Ella's versions of "Somebody to Watch Over Me," much prefer Blossom Dearie's version.
