Blown Speaker?

I know this is a silly question but...

I loaned my buddy a 2x15 OLD Peavy Cab loaded with what appears to be Black Widows. He's been running that cab with an Ampeg SVT-Pro 4.

The cab isn't farting out or anything, but what I do is here is distortion/overdrive sounds coming through the speakers. Are they blown? Where do I go from here on repairing the cab?

If its distorting even at low master volume, without preamp drive (your amp's clean settings) then you need to find one or two replacement BW drivers. They can be found on the bay or CL and whatnot. Check which driver is bust by disconnecting one, play a bit, then the other.

yep, sounds like a blown voice coil in one or both. watch that volume from now on. svt 4 pro's got a ton of wattage and no way that cab can take it.

I think that the BW drivers can be repaired easily with a replacement basket. Parts Express has some.
