Blue Steels Vs. Rotos

Thoughts on these two strings?

I like both, but prefer the Blues Steels. The fresh tone lasts slightly longer than the Rotos, and I prefer the overall tone on the Blue Steels, whether brand new or well worn in. I currently have 3 year old BS's on my '08 MIA Jazz, and I think they sound great. BS's are cheaper than the Rotos IIRC.

For me:

Rotos = Best roundwound tone
Blue Steels = Longer life

The dean blue steels are nice for change of pace tone to me. The rotosound swing66 just sound better to me for regular string choice though. I liked using the blue steels once in awhile for crack of thunder bass add the blue steels have.

I am a big fan of rotos. I tried the Blue Steels once and didn't care for them at all.

Rotos are more middy and agressive than the blue steels, IMO. That's about it.

This is all subjective, of course, but I would describe BS's tone as rounder, with a more balanced overall tone and a good solid bottom.

Roto's and a Fender think Geddy for the aggressive tone/clank. They just kill on a Jazz Bass IMO. Don

Boom. Big agressive, clanky gnarly sound. The blue steels will get close, but not quite there. Too smooth sounding
