Hey, I would like to know what are some of gut combinations that you folks here on the "Bluegrass" section are using. This is a great site to learn from all types of music, and what types of strings that may, or may not be good for you. I've been reading for weeks on here about gut strings, and I think, the more I read, the more confused I am. So many choices of brands, and gauges. Some seem great, while others that may be in the same set, are not so great.
I just bought a 1935 King, that I'm going to put guts on. I have owned a full set of Gamuts before, I really liked them, but kind of felt like I should have got a heavier set, because I play heavy with my right hand. But from what I've read, they will have more tension, but could be a little to "thuddy" if that makes sense, and could lose volume, but I'm really not sure. I love the sound of the old bluegrass/country songs from way back when. I have learned that you really can't find those type of strings, but what gauges did they use on each string? I know most of it was the players back then, like Bob Moore, Junior Husky, Joe Zinkan, and so on. But any info on that would be great.
I have had some help on here from Kungfusheriff, which I value his option very much, on the Pirastro Chorda Carlos Henriquez set, and as of now, is what is going on the bass. But, just thought I would post on here and see what set, or combinations that ya"ll are using.
Also, I play nothing but traditional bluegrass, just pizz, no arco. So a good pizz strings is what I'm looking for. Thanks for any help.
