Bo Bice

I actually knew Bo Bice when I was in 7th grade, he would come over and get drunk with my drummer-at-the-time's dad. I liked him a lot better as a struggling singer-songwriter type, personally.
I thought Bo Bice was very bland. I really don't care much for Maroon 5, but thought it interesting that the bass player was only seen very briefly twice while everyone else got a fair bit of camera time.
At the risk of losing my Man Card, I'll admit that I do watch AI every week (with my wife, of course). The single biggest redeeming factor is to hear Ricky Minor (band leader and bass player) drop some serious chops. That guy is an amazing player.

Yeah, Ricky Minor is my favorite part of the show for sure. He is a ripping bassist.

My wife and I got pretty stoked when we heard the band start to belt it out. Ricky Minor on bass, the horns, the killer back up singers, and then...

It was way too much band, and way too much song for that dreadlock dude. Fortunately there is only one Bob. Although the singer that fronts the Wailers does a mighty fine job covering Bob. So does Ziggy. But I digress. Point is, Ricky Minor and his band was cranking behind a very subpar singer.

I watched the other nite on that performance, and was it me, or was there NO BAND IN THE MIX? Seemed like each of the top four sang a capella. On the results show, the band was mixed in. If it had sounded that bad in person, no wonder Simon was especially viperous in his assessments!
I'm not sure what show you're watching, but the bad was definitely in the mix at my house.
+1. The vocals probably should have just been squashed after the first couple aborted attempts of a note, but the band was definitely in the mix.
That's a good idea. If the singer is wrecking the song, just pull his mic down and let us enjoy the band.
I was watching it on Dish, the Hi-Def Faux channel (don't recall the number, but it's the Houston market.). There was NO band in the mix on performance night until about halfway through the second song that Syesha was singing. Then it suddenly appeared, like someone at the board saw the slider almost all the way down and said "Whoops. Forgot that one." The mic outputs on the judges were all crazy as well. Randy's was OK, Paula's was either too loud, or was WAY too soft, and Simon's made him speak with a British accent.
I'd never watched American Idol before this year -- I just don't watch much TV, period. But I did start watching it a couple of months ago because there's a guy from my city in it (David Cook). I admit it's been interesting to see him go from just 'one of the pack' into one of the frontrunners. I also enjoy watching Ricky Minor and his band of pro musicians do their thing.
It's a weird show, and I may never watch it again after this season, but I'm enjoying it for the time being.

Before you start throwing tomatoes at me, please take them out of the can first, and let me explain...
The "record contract" is an exclusive for ten years, from what I've heard, which means that the AI "Machine" OWNS you for that time. You have absolutely NO input as to what goes on the CD, and usually no writing credits, either. Hence, only mechanical royalties. So DC would be WAY better off getting second place. Archuleta is going to win, as I've said all season. He's a polished, young singer with a moldable image. They're more likely to get 3-4 hit albums out of him than out of DC or Syesha. Also, most of the second-place or third-place "contestants" have ended up doing VERY well. Look at Daughtry, for example.

I agree. Wasn't Amazon forced to pull his first DIY album because of this contractual thing?
