Bob Babbitt RIP

Had the pleasure of meeting Bob a few times and he was always a real warm and down-to-earth guy.

Here he is showing me proper technique on my bass:

RIP, Bob. You'll be missed.

Rest in Peace Bob Babbitt!

Your playing has always been an inspiration to me.
As I have studied to learn the notes to many of your basslines,
I have always aspired to have your groove.

You will be missed - you will be remembered!

Glad to hear from you again, Michael! It's been a long time! :)

Thanks, Alvaro. :)

I haven't been around as much as I used to be, but I'm starting to come back more and more.

There are many new names here which I don't recognize, but that happens at all forums.

For those who don't know, Alvaro directed me to this forum almost 12 years ago!

It's very good to hear from you, my friend. ;)

I won't be a stranger.

Mike

I'm late to the party but I just now found out about Bob's death. How depressing. With him gone, an important era is lost. The architects of some of the best, most influential bass lines ever are no longer with us. I'm truly sad tonight.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob a couple years ago. I'd contacted him to play bass on a song I was writing for a film and was surprised that he was so hospitable and accommodating when it came to our schedule. But more than anything, I was impressed by his incredibly positive spirit and professionalism. I'd expected a bit of an ego, as so many "known" musicians carry with them, but he showed none of it. What a classy guy, and a serious talent. I didn't realize he was in his 70's at the time -- he still had the funk!

R.I.P. Mr Babbitt
