Bob Daisly kick

I play in a metal tribute band, so "Flying High Again", "Crazy Train", "Bark at the Moon", and "Over the Mountain" are all on the song list. I really enjoy his lines, especially behind the guitar solos. "Steal Away the Night" is the next one to learn, and I'm looking forward to that line.
I just bought "Diary" and "Blizzard" on ebay, and made sure they were the originals, not the remasters. What Ozzy/Sharon did to Daisley/Kerslake is so wrong, and it is a ripoff to fans to rerecord parts to such classic albums.

It's strange, Bob really is the ultimate example of a bassist nobody appreciates until they have to learn his stuff. I wonder if Trujillio appreciated his material before he erased it from history.

Lots of people, two of my favorites that I mention here often are Steve DiGiorgio and Martin Mendez. I'm also a fan of Geezer, Steve Harris, Geddy, Cliff, and quite a few others who are less well known and famous.

I didn't know quite how wide spread Daisly's catalog was, I thought he was the bassist on Blizzard, Diary exclusively. I didn't realize he was on the later Ozzy albums which have some very cool playing.

Edit: I just my current copy of Blizzard (bought a few years ago to replace a scratched one) and my copy of Diary are REMASTERS...so it is entirely possible that I've never heard Bod Daisly's actually playing on those two records.

They were remastered before as well, without re-records. And the recent remaster was... well recent. If you bought it a few years ago, it's Bob... and you don't like him.

When I listened to the "Bob" Ozzy albums a little while ago, I think his "riffs" are often boring, he seems to stomp out a quarter note feel often, but then throw in these little embellishments that make it more interesting.

Another underrated pick player is Dave Hope from Kansas. He has some really tasteful lines. Anybody unfamiliar with Kansas beyond Dust In The Wind & Carry on Wayward Son should listen to their first 3 albums. Also you can try & download Magnum Opus from Ares or Kazaa...it's a pretty wild song & shows the really progressive side many people are unaware of.

Man he was awesome! I still listen to his stuff. As for Daisly, he is an inspirational bassist in the way he crafts his lines. He and Randy made an awesome team.
