Bobby Watson talks James Jamerson Junior and Senior

My mind is blown! He said Jamerson Jr. was the one who played bass on EWF’s September! I have heard many stories about folks ghosting for Verdine, but EWF basslines were very distinctive. That said, I’m sure Jamerson Jr. could play that if asked to do it.

Bobby Watson has had a super solid career outside of Rufus. I loved his production work and bass playing with Rene and Angela. I got to see him live with Rufus and Chaka Khan back in 1977, and he impressed the heck out of me then.

I listened to a lot of those classic Rufus albums. Dude is a great player who be really busy without getting in the way.

Bobby had his songs for Off The Wall mixed up. Lady in My Life and Rock With You were on 2 different albums. Unless they saved LIML for Thriller. But Louis Johnson played on that track .

Both of those are 2 of my all time favorite MJ songs and bass lines. ( Along with Get on The Floor ).

Bobby was a little too concerned with the DJ not acknowledging his Ferrari.

I guess he got to play Jamerson funk machine before it disappeared . That story about Jr. having that bass in his possession and them both being partying drug users makes me question how that bass truly disappeared.

He was still a kid in lot of ways at that point, and he wanted to impress Jane Kennedy’s sister.
