Body binding or no?

I had one bass with binding. The next morning after the gig I found some memory cloth. 10 minutes and never an issue again.

First bass I thought of when I read the title of the post was your black bass! Have seen it posted several places and always drool over it!

I would say the tele bass would be the only kind that would look good with binding to me. It just screams ZZ to me!

my Gretsch doesn't have a sharp binding, my Hofner doesn't have a sharp binding. binding is not always equal to a 'sharp corner'.

So, the binding on your basses has a 1/2” radius?

Binding usually has a 1/16” or so radius - 1/8” at most. That’s “relatively sharp” - it’s small enough to be uncomfortable if you try to rest your arm against it. I certainly didn’t mean “sharp enough to cut you”.

not sure, how much exactly radius, but yes, it's notably rounded. and has a smooth feeling.

I had a bass with a sharp binding, that was Ovation. so I was saying what I was saying: not every binding is sharp. luckily, I do have instruments where it isn't.

so, let me ask again: was it a Rick? cause they're known for very harsh binding, literally sharper than everything else.

I think it looks sharp. I have a (quilted) Brian Moore, (white) Epi JC, (black) Steiner XM2 and a (Ruby Red) Ric that all enjoy it. For me, binding tends to kick it up a notch.
