Bongo 5 HS 60 cycle hum

Anybody else experiencing a 60 cycle hum with the single coil p/u? I found a thread where Joe Nerve mentioned it, but I wanted to see if this was normal. My old Bongo 5 HS would produce a really low 60 cycle hum, but the one I have now is really loud. Is it possible there is something wrong with the phantom coil?

I've had a number of HS configurations and only had hum due to environmental factors. Dimmers, fluorescent lights, dirty ungrounded power - that sort of thing.

Hmm. The practice space is the only factor I can think of. We moved to a bigger room in the same facility, but in a building across the street. Maybe I'll try a power conditioner first so see if there are ground issues in this building. I have one lying around.

My Bongo has the same issue as yours. The single coil hums but the bass is dead silent when I turn the blend knob towards the bridge pickup.

When I got my Bongo HS yesterday from EBMM factory for troubleshooting, the repair-tech wrote in the invoice that the hum is minimal and is normal for a Bongo H/S. He also A'B'd my bass with another Bongo just to make sure.

I'm not sure how loud the hum is in your bass but I experimented playing in different areas in my room. The hum is very apparent when I am in front of my amp and facing the cabinet but when I face the other way and move about 3 feet from my amp, the hum goes away. As Lord Bongo mentioned, the hum is due to environmental factors.

But if the bass still hums even when you move to different areas in your room, it's probably an issue with the silent circuit, but it could also be a problem on the preamp board that is preventing the silent circuit from functioning (as quoted from the repair-tech's reply on e-mail ).

Hithere. Shoot, I have the exact same issue but in reverse!! the single coil (and piezo) or silent but the humbucker is humming like crazy. I just replaced the pre-amp and the humbucker only has two wires which are soldered to the correct PCB pads. Any ideas on this one?
