Bongo deadspot?

My bongo has a D string that has no where near the zing of the other strings when snapped... Is this a dud Ernie Ball string or a deadspot? The factory recently put in a shim at the neck to lower the action a little bit. Could that be the cause?

If it helps any the E string has a weird chorus like sound to it. could it be bad strings from when they shipped it from bass centra 2 weeks ago?

Ill take a stab in the dark: are the pickups closer/farther away on one side? I've heard the sound from pups being to close described as a 'warble' which sounds like it might fit. otherwise I dunno

deadspots are typically in the 5th-7th fret area on the G-string. If the D-string doesn't sound "right" anywhere on the fretboard, then it's probably just the string.
