Bongo Fretless Help

Hey,

I really want a 4 string fretless piezo dual humbucker bongo. They are too expensive. All I can find used is either a dual humbucker without piezo, or a piezo single humbucker. Which is better? I want the possibility of a really thick sound, but I've also heard lots about how the piezo adds a good ambience to the sound.

why dont you just buy a cheaper fretless bass and change the pickups

A piezo definitely has a different sound. If you're going for thick, I don't think piezos are the answer. I'd go 2 humbuckers.

Piezos can often have a very wide range of tones, which is completely determined by string and technique. They can definitely add a nice degree of thick warmth, although often sound entirely too bright on fretted basses.

Hm, considering they are too expensive by now, if it's your dream bass, why don't you wait a little longer in order to save up some more money so you'll be able to afford it. If I were you, I'd really wanted to be absolutely content when I bought such a bass, so it should be perfect right out of the box. I think this would be worth waiting a little longer to get it.

so i guess my question really is.... what is added when you start dialing up the piezo when you're playing fretless?

I put a 4HHP lined fretless on reserve, so I guess I was impatient for a used one to pop up.
