I always dug the look. Never quite understood what people don't like about it.

Liked it as soon as I saw it, and ordered one (HHP5) about 5 minutes later. This was before I had even heard of Talkbass, so I had no preconceptions based on the opinions of others (I like Warwicks, too).

Soundwise. The damn thing is so good, loud and toneful that everything else I go and try seems to have a built in sound suppressor. I don't even use the EQ on my amp anymore. I have also tried a bunch of different strings, but apart from DR Fatbeams the standard Slinkys seem to suit it best.

Wow, now I feel ever BETTER! (Well, bad for you, good for me... ) :o

I took some used gear to a GC near me a few weeks back, and firstly was looking for the Fender Arodyne (??) that I saw at another GC but was thrown out of (long story).. Anyway, they had THREE of the Bongos that they were "blowing out the door" at $860 - $940... Played it, and was hooked. I am sure small aircraft can be operated with less knobs, but I digress. I bought the burgundy one and with my traded gear ended up costing me $160 out of pocket cash! :hyper: I actually like the painted neck (love glossy ie MIJ Fenders or painted necks for IMHO speed and playability) and the look was "unique" which I liked as well. I like the fact that they are away from the "cookie cutter" style basses. Good or bad, it turns heads looks and sound-wise.

What more can one ask? :)

I now have that one, as well as my SR400QM - I am pretty happy.

New to the Bongo 4HH, but digging mine very much so far. Feels right, sounds right, plays right, and I think it looks pretty cool--I'm baffled at why they are so polarizing, they are not the freakiest-looking basses out there, and they do back it up with quality. The gloss back works best for me, but I would really enjoy the Sequoia Gold too, except for the fact they are Ltd Ed, and therefore I'd pamper it too much...

A non-musician friend saw a Bass Player mag I had with Bootsy on the cover. His quote was, "you can dress like that, but you'd better be able to play!" Haha, different strokes...

I got my bongo from GC the blowout price. I paid a grand after taxes. The guy wasn't the friendliest but whatever.

Needless to say I was a fan since I first laid eyes on one. I am trying to sell mine on TB here, but If it doesn't sell, I wont be disappointed. I fell back in love after a lil jam session.

I DO have a quick question for all you bongo-ers out there.

What strings do you use. I am currently playing EB Hybrid Slinky's but am looking for something a warmer. If it helps I am starting a Jazz group so a good 'jazz tone'.

Originally just hated it. Looked at it again with a friend a week later, and loved it. Everyone I show them to hates them, but for something seems to change their mind when they hear it and hear the pricetag to go with it :rolleyes:

Needless to say, they definitely look better in person (quote from drummer - "Goddamn that thing looks nice! Not anything like the ******** sperm it looks like in the photos!") and play like a beast. Get one!

Anyone have anything to add here? I would love one but tried one out today at GC and even though I loved the bass I have always HATED EB Slinkys.

Anyone have any string suggestions?
