Bongo Players?

this bass seems like the ugly kid - who's an amazing athlete.

-have you always liked the way it looks?
-or, did you have to learn to like it?
-or, do you still not like the way it looks, but are hooked on everything else about it?


personally, i havent acquired the taste for the look of that bass, yet. but apparently its tone and playability is amazing (i havent played one).

so i am just curious to know how bongo players feel when it comes to the look...

i could see that.
in person, i've only seen them hung about 15' high, and i didnt feel like asking the GC staff to bring it down.

I absolutely loved it from the first time I saw a Bongo. I owned one for about a year and the headstock started to get on my nerves a little bit after a while.

Great sounding and playing bass and I am sure at some point I will again own a HH Bongo 5. It is the only bass that I regret selling.

They are great basses and you can learn to live with the looks after you play one and feel it and hear it for yourself!

I used to hate the way they look. Thought they were ugly as sin. Then I played one and was blown away by it. I grew to love the way they look.

How could you not love something that looks like this?

They look better hanging on a player than on a wall or guitar stand. It was an aquired taste for me and it still has to be the right color, but I've got an 08LE5 on the way.

Some of the current colors are strange, but one could learn to live with them. The prices are just too high for me, just now, sigh. --Kent

I think I could get used to the body... but I'm really not a fan of that "saggy metal" headstock. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

i've always liked the looks of them, and the ones i've played have some good sounds--i don't really like the feel of them though, but they aren't uncomfortable by any means

I loved the sound so much, I bought one in spite of the looks. It totally grew on me though and I now like the looks of it.

Count me as hating the looks initially, but playing one/hearing the sound made me a believer. I spend most of my practice time on my 6 string cause that is where I need to be right now. I gig with my Bongo because it's the right tool for the job. I still can't get over how much I love the sound and the feel. I look forward to playing a 6 string Bongo when they are available. I wonder if MM would make me a fretless 6?

Honestly, for about the first twenty minutes when Hippiesandwich sent me those first photos from that NAMM when Bongos were introduced, I was....stunned. I don't know if I thought I liked them or if I thought I didn't.

After that first open-mouthed, slack-jawed, slobbering period, I thought - okay, let's see.

I got one of the first (available to the public) ones that fall and now I find it hard to play anything else.

Bah. Complete fanboy, I am.
