Boogie Bummer

mmmkay. Whatever, man. It's 6 am where I am...way too early in the morning to argue. I'm happier than a pig in mud that you've been playing for 30 years...good on ya.

Why did you buy an open set of strings?

Thanks for the disrespect of my rack. I appreciate the insult and take it for what it's worth.

If you returned the 'multitude' of gear you bought at GC, why on earth did you let the quantity become a 'multitude'? I think I would have stopped when it became 'a lot', or maybe 'some'.

Nevertheless...since neither one of our posts did anything to help Jeff Schmidt with his problem, I'm gonna leave this thread. Feel free to continue without me.

sorry...mophat !!! i've had way too much coffee !! i just get so pissed off whenever i hear of someone getting burned by gc.
and by the way your rack looks awesome !! is that a mesa 6x10 under it ? bet she cranks ! nice website also :)
regards
and to the original starter of this thread...i would bring the amp back to gc and demand a full refund...

In additional to your CAPSLOCK offense - you should also try to read the post before crafting your reply. I DID NOT buy the M PULSE 600 at Guitar Center. When it comes to GC - I share your disgust.

I often pay extra for gear and wait longer to get it with the "little guys" or online shops just to avoid dealing with Guitar Center at all. I "special ordered" this amp - waited for a month to get it and when it arrived it was new in the box.

UPDATE:

I called Boogie today and they said they replaced the pot and I can pick it up today. I'm overwrought with joy.

awwwwwwww it's so nice how things work out. The moral of the story is you probably spoke to an employee who needs to brush on their buisiness skills/personality/attitude. I was in a wrmouth thread where that's probably the issue too. If you're in buisiness it is always to your benifit to serve the customer as best as you can. Unfortunately, the larger acompany gets the less contact is possible with the founders or other peopel who understand that. It's impossibel to supervise everyone who deals in customer service 100% of the time. So sometimes you or I have to deal with an idiot, or someone who's jsut having a bad day. If i ever have that problem i always ask to speak to their supervisor, or their supervisor's supervisor ad infinitum. 99% of the time you'll end up talking to someone eventually who'll say "of course we can help you!"

Hey Joe Capslock! It looks like you're shouting. Turn off your capslock, please. GC is the largest music instrument retail chain. The infrastructure is established in markets that Mesa would have a tough time reaching. It's good business. If a knob breaks off at one, there's 100+ more worldwide. It still sucks, but you can't fault either one of them for trying to make money.

It's the same as using a promotor or booking agent in markets you've never played. Sure, you could do the legwork and try to make connections, and maybe get a date...but having an established promotor is the way to go.

Well Boogie could try selling through online retailers. That might help them reach some more markets.

Most companies do it and seem to be ok with it. Are they reaching more consumers? Not being sarcastic, just wondering.

It sucks when you want to buy a great piece of Mesa gear but have no GC within 100 miles. Those are the markets that I am talking about. Not everyone likes to buy used, and not everyone lives near a GC and sometimes both. :hmm:

Fender,SWR (Fender), Ampeg, GK, Aguilar, etc. seem to be successfull at it.

I've owned 2 Mesa products, the WalkAbout head and a Buster 2x10 combo I currently use with a Diesel 15" Cab.

My experience with their bass gear is that it's excellent-The WalkAbout sounded excellent, and the tones I get from all-tube Buster rig work for me. I think that Mesa is very serious and dedicated to their bass guitar product line, and the M-Pulse series has evolved into one of the leading products on the market.

It's a shame that you had problems with both your gear and service at Mesa. In the times I've had questions for the factory, they were responsive and either took my call then or returned it soon after. I also live near their Hollywood outlet, and their sales and tech staff there is superb-real expertise.

Maybe the tech's comment about taking a month for delivery only reflected the current lead time for the amp- I don't know what his attitude was, and I suppose its possible he was having a bad day if he was being rude- I'm not defending him, just offering a possible explanation.

As for GC, some have good staff and management, some don't. Some stores maintain their gear, and others let it fall into disarray and disrepair. They are what they are, and Mesa uses them to get their product to market-even at GC, their pricing is firm.

I really hope your problem with the 600 was a fluke, and it continues to perform well and give you great sound.
It always sucks when top line gear goes buggy; I've heard the same reports about Aguilar, Eden, etc. at times.

Glad you're back in the game.

I know it's an oversimplification, but would you want to buy an all tube amp through mail order when you are paying by the pound?

What percentage of Fender, SWR, Ampeg, Mesa amps are all tube?

The majority are solid state. The majority of popular amps from all of these companies are solid state. In fact the MOST popular Mesa amps are the solid state ones. Yet still they could have a clause to not sell tube amps online because of more possibility of damage.

However what are Mesa's top 3 selling bass amps? If I were to guess I would say the Walkabout, M-Pulse 360/600 and Big Block 750

That's a valid point - but Mesa will sell direct to those that are beyond a certain number of miles away from the closest dealer. Not sure how far it is, but you could always call them and ask.

The problem with selling mail order is that Mesa wants people to buy their amps based on TONE, not on SPECS. Specs are misleading, and tone is something that can't be determined by what's on paper. Mail order can also create a service nightmare - amp breaks, you send it back to the mail order dealer, they send it to Mesa, Mesa sends it back to them, they send it back to you... etc., etc. I personally think that buying an amp should be a hands on thing, just like buying a bass.

When I ordered my 15" WalkAbout Scout (6 weeks ago and counting :( ), I asked about servicing and the salesman told me that they had a local guy that handled it.

Now, with all the talk about sending stuff back to Mesa, I'm wondering if this "local guy" is authorized to do the work.

If I have a problem at some point, should I insist that it be sent back to Mesa (with the accompanying wait)?

Emor, I checked the manual that came with my Buster, and Mesa listed their authorized repair stations, so they do have a network set up. I would call the factory and ask where the one nearest you is.

DannyBoy, not all GC's carry Mesa, and they space it out in the LA area because of the Hollywood store. The local GC can tell you where the units are located, or it would be well worth a drive to Sunset Blvd. They are very cool there, and should have the gear.
I'm suprised to hear that there's that long of a wait for some of the M-Pulse stuff---They apparently are getting a good rep and Mesa is still by some standards a small operation.
