Booking conflicts...

#1. Whoever books a gig first wins. even if it means someone has to give up a higher paying/ higher profile gig that was booked later. If you have to, start a free message board or chat room that only band members know about to post bookings. That way the booking will have a time stamp on it.

#2. Anyone who insists on not making the first booked gig (see#1) can expected to be subbed for.

#3. Anyone who misses gig #1 and does not provide a sub or reasonable time to find a sub will be replaced.

#4. Anyone who misses so many gigs that it becomes a PITA even when subs are provided, can expect to be replaced by someone who wants to be there all the time.

By this reasoning, I should give up the large festival.

Order of gigs booked: 1) My band, small festival, no time confirmation yet, 8 p.m. requested. 2) Her band, small festival, no time confirmation yet, no confirmation of time requested until *after* the following occurred: 3) My band, large festival, 4 p.m. confirmed time.

I asked her to pick a time that she wanted for Gig #2, before we booked #3. She delayed, and we got put against a wall for Gig #3...the organizers could not wait any longer. So, we took a time slot that, *we* felt, at least left her some wiggle room for her own show.

It is at that point that she decided she wanted the same time slot for Gig 2, as for Gig 3.

So...how does this measure up, to you?

Band chat room...We have MySpace for that.

+1 to everyone who supported your original decision. Yours appears to have been confirmed first, the majority wants it your way, and she should have known that she may lose out if she is in a second band. This is the downside to being in multiple bands. I think that you did everything you could to be fair and help everyone, but at some point you have to do what is best for you and your band. Telling her that it is her choice (to have her or a sub in your show) was a pretty good deal and the right thing to do.

IMO, if she bails for good, then it was never meant to be and you will just have to replace her permanently. Good luck, both with this issue and at the festival. :)

In my book, no time confirmation means no gig booked. Book the one that gives you all the firm details first. Get a contract. Then the foot draggers can deal with the leftovers.

They need a "wicked grin" icon in here, for times like this. :smug:

I just got off the phone with Small Fest Organizer guy. We have been offered 11-midnight, with my husband's band opening from 10-11. The late crowd is always good, because most of the other local venues close early, and their crowds come on over.

So I e-mailed the band, and told them that I am happy with those slots, because that gives us time to eat and rest after playing the Big Fest at 4 p.m. No "maybe's", no "if you can make its". We're playing it.

Small Fest Organizer and I agreed that, although Guitar asked me to schedule her, it is best if he contacts her directly, and I gave him her phone number.

She can set her show up for any time that she likes. She will not get the 4-5 slot she wants, because there are already bands scheduled there, and Small Fest Organizer is giving prime slots to bands that have played the fest in past years. Like my band. But I didn't say anything about it. He told me those times are full on his own.

If she still feels it is too much trouble to play the Big Fest...she does not have to. We have a sub.

Ball is in her court, now. Danm the torpedoes, full speed ahead, let the chips fall where they may, and other appropriate sobriquets. :smug:

Big, huge, besos to you all!!!

Cool. Good luck keeping all the sheep in the flock, it can be a battle sometimes for sure.

Well, we're not playing that big fest, after all. Singer wants out of it, too. Has decided his ex lives to near there, and wants out. Awwwww...F@%K!!! GORRAM, MUDDER-RUTTIN' *YOKO'S*!!!

{{{looks for something to kick...}}}

{{{Nothing to kick that won't *hurt*...dangit...}}}

Herding cats, indeed.

I may just dang well free-lance/do pickups for a while. I'm tired of cat herding.

What!? He's afraid of his ex? What's she gonna do, come to the gig and frown at him while he's onstage? What a wimp.

On the other hand, have you ever heard an old song by Ry Cooder, "The Girls From Texas"? Is she a vengeful dispenser of Texas Justice? Does he have reason to fear for his life? Trying to figure out why he'd wimp out... ? :rollno:

Sorry for your frustration.. hang in there.

Yeah, I've decided to just take calls from whoever this summer. One year of handling booking for my primary band was plenty. And that band's only a trio at that...

Knock 'em out at the other festival gig, Cherie.

Naw, she's not a Texas Girl With A Mad On. She's from Michigan. He just doesn't want to talk to her, and she'll try to talk to him.

Yeah. I know. Its really, really, really, really dumb. She's not evil...but she messes with his head real bad. So jr hi.

I tell you, honey, I really think I am just not even going to try to get with a band for a while, after this thing is over. If a band wants me for the next little while, they can come and find me. I won't be lookin'! (Until I just can't stand any more, anyway.;-)

Sometimes, it just isn't worth the drama, is it? Time for a rest. I'll use the time to study up and get better.

Thanks sugar, I plan to. We got the primo 10 p.m spot! The best crowds at this thing have always been the late-comers. They're fresh, they're not too drunk yet, and aren't all fried from being there all day long.

Cherie :-)
