Boost Pedal?

Hey guys, I'm interested in getting a pedal which I can go on and off with. It's purely to make me louder momentarily to help me stand out against two guitarist (if you've ever played "Lightning Crashes" by Live in a band, you'll know what I mean!)

I'm a fan of EHX and saw the LPB-1was going cheap and possibly what I'm looking for.

Thoughts are most welcome and I was wondering if any one else uses that pedal, and if so, what have your experiences with it been like?

EHX Mole is cheap too. It tends to roll off the highs though. I sold the one I had shortly after getting it. Check out the different pedal sellers you find on google for all the different brands and types of boosters out there.

You'd be better off going with the LPB-1 than the Mole IMO

You could make a passive one that would cut momentarily rather than boost, if you get me.

I made a simple pedal that switches between two volume pots.

the LPB-1 is also a really easy build. Check out beavisaudio.com for details. The mole is essentially an LPB-1 with a bass boost (and treble roll off). The screaming bird is an LPB-1 with a treble boost.

I'm happy to pay the AUD$50 to ship it from the states over building one myself, that pretty much why I'm asking...

LPB-1 can get a little noisy with some power supplys....has a ancient transistor circuit never cared for them much...but their is many that swear by them

MXR micro amp is a cleaner boost, has better input impedance...
think its about 10 dollars more than the EH

depending on your amp will give you distortion....since it was pretty much designed to overdrive your amps preamp...like most boosters

But if you're in Oz, check out MI Audio and Morrison too.
They are both cheap boosters.

I just picked up a Digitech Bad Monkey, and tried it out last night during practice. A great little pedal for a nice boost, clean or dirty.

id go with the MarkBass Super Booster thats the one i have on my board it replaced my EHX Mole.
the super booster has a clean boost that doesnt rob you of any tone also has a amp filter side with the VLE and VPF filters that are on the markbass amps...
really good pedal true bypass great price $129 new

I've had great luck with the MXR Micro Amp for just about any application/any instrument. It's absolutely clean and has tons of gain on hand.

However, when I need to rise above the mix I like to do it with tone as much as volume, so my board is sporting the Durham Sex Drive. It can do a totally clean boost, but can also add some sparkle to your high end via the very musical tone knob. And of course, it can also give you a deliciously smooth, warm overdrive if you want. Plus, it has a switchable two-mode compression circuit as well. Can't say enough about this pedal... it's a winner all the way around. Expensive, though.

An EQ pedal might be a less expensive option. Most are fairly clean in their level boost, with many offering up to +15db overall, in addition to the frequency bands -- which you could just leave flat if you don't want that feature.
