Booya Tube Preamp /DI

Im sorry- im not trying to be difficult nor disrespectful but i dont see any description of what's under the hood other than a gut shot. Im afraid they need to provide a better description at that price point before i consider looking any further.
Description specs and additional info about the Booya Filament Tube Pre / Di are posted on the Booya web site - CH

Booya's site, as we see it, has only been up for one week.
No mention of these pre's o. YT.

While it does seem like an impressive piece of kit that checks a lot of boxes, any hype so far seems inorganic and it may be worth waiting until more honest reviews come out.
The designer at Booya (Jamie Simpson) has been developing this Tube Pre / Di for a quite some time - He's been maintaining my vintage amp collection for a decade / (and the tube gear of many other East Coast players as well) I happened to be up at his shop and had a chance to try it - I purchased both the guitar version for my personal use and also the bass version for my home studio) When I come across a great piece of new gear -- I believe in sharing the info to the community - That's it - Best to all in this site -- Chuck Hammer

Well hey, nice to meet you. I love your Guitarchitecture series, btw. Please forgive our suspicion.

I emailed Jamie but haven’t heard back yet, maybe you could help. Are the tone controls boost and cut? I’m especially interested in the mid control if it’s a boost/cut, some bass preamps are cut only for mids, hoping the booya isn’t one of those.

Hi - Of course Jamie is best to answer all technical questions relayed to Booya Filament Tube Pre/Di - but I noticed right away that I really liked the mids - and at the time asked him about it - iirc the circuit though custom is somewhat based on a vintage Bassman circa 1964 - 1967 era - but with the deep switch always on - so I believe you cut back from there - it's a pure analog circuit - and the bass players I know that have played it all have said virtually the same thing - as in "they love the mids - and where had this thing been forever ?" - But it's always best to contact Jamie at Booya directly - I know he's been busy fulfilling orders because let's face it : at the current price this hand built Tube Pre amp / Di with those specs is imho sweet - Matt, I hope this info helps - Best regards - Chuck Hammer

This all feels a little promotional. Never heard of this Booya and suddenly today, 2 accounts who haven't posted on TB in close to a year both post about it on the same day. 🤔

$675 on a lark without any description of the product? Yeeeesch…
Hi - Hope this info helps :
What is Filament? It's a dual 12AX7, high voltage vacuum tube preamp. With a vintage style tone stack, capacitor coupled transformer-less DI, and preamp voicing tailored specifically for the type of model purchased, Filament blends vintage tones with modern reliability. Filament features fully independent DI and Amp/Stage outputs for full control over sound levels presented to the front of house and those on stage, the ability to drive a power amp to full signal, and a handy -30dB pad on the Amp/Stage output to allow daisy chaining into the front end of your favorite amplifier.

Some bass players like all kinds of preamps. I currently don't need a 3 band that will only scoop mids. Given the choice between a 2 band and a 3 with mid cut only, I'll choose the 2.
It's great to share info about new high end Tube gear on a forum such as this - As a guitarist I absolutely rely on having 3 ranges of vintage style EQ -especially while recording Di - Best - CH

And crappy photos...
Hi: it's not difficult to understand what a high end hand built Tube Preamp / Di does but I've reposted below the specific info that Jamie currently has posted on his site: As with any new high end product that is breaking out, it always comes down to trying it to determine if it suits an individual players needs : Best regards -

With all due respect, there are no specs listed on the site, just a feature set. As well, trying it out was your job, but when asked if the mids were cut or boost, you couldn't answer that question without asking Booya first. All you could say was bassists I know love the mids. The creds you listed should've put you in a position to know this, but you didn't. This tells me that you either haven't tried it out or you couldn't discern it on your own. This impacts your credibility to offer an honest assessment.

Tell Booya to get a unit into @scubaduba hands so he can offer an honest assessment.

Also tell them to work on their site. It doesn't offer any confidence with their product.

What's the output impedance on the padded output?

What is Booya's warranty policy?
His warranty is 6 months -
Please direct all technical questions to Jamie at Booya Amplifiers [email protected]
He's a well known highly respected Tube Amp Designer on the East Coast - New Jersey based - He works on gear for many major players for years - He's been developing Filament Tube Preamp / Di for quite a while - it's serious high end hand built boutique pro level gear - contact Jamie through the Booya web page: or directly at

With all disrespect you are being somewhat ridiculous -
Of course all tech questions should be directed to Jamie at Booya Amps : [email protected]
-- I'm just an ex pro guitarist -obviously everyone has their own prefs for mids and tone stacks - I'm not involved in promoting anything - simply mentioned on TB thread that I purchased two Booya Filament Tube Preamps - one for personal use as a guitarist and one for guest bass players at my home studio - I think they sound amazing - Jamie at Booya is a well known long time Boutique Tube Amp Designer on the USA east coast New Jersey scene - and that's it - all tech questions should be directed at Jamie at Booya Amps : [email protected]

- I'm just a player who's recorded at many major studios worldwide and thinks what he's designed sounds amazing. Please don't direct your animosity at me for digging a great new Tube Preamp / Di - - you should be politely thanking me for hipping you to new gear - Over !
Best regards -
Chuck Hammer

Jamie from Booya got back to me yesterday. Here’s what he said about the EQ section:

Our EQ doesn't boost frequencies, its a vintage style tone stack- very similar to an old Bassman, with a few tweaks. The preamp voicing has a ton of midrange and the mid control offers a pretty large sweep of gain in those frequencies.”

How do I get a working handle with strike through.

I'm jelly of the facade of inactive status

TB illuminati, please chime in.

It looks like @Fang quit TB. When your account goes inactive, your handle gets a strike through. Also happens if you get banned. Either way, it sucks Fang (Chuck Hammer) is gone. He’s a legit legend in the guitar synth world.

For those that didn't know, this is who he is:

I believe he was being sincere when he said he's just trying to hip us to something new that he likes. I don't believe he was being a shill. Also, he wasn’t here to answer any questions on behalf of booya. I emailed Jamie and he got back to me within 24 hrs. Oh well, a really serious musician and producer chased off.
