Bored at work

So I thought I would share a stupid story from the past.

Our college band was invited to play a huge house party during the Little 500 weekend at Indiana University. Great time, but a weird experience.

We were a jam band, that played 50/50 originals to covers. We were not going over very well, and the crowd started yelling for us to play Matchbox 20 tunes. We were in the middle of "Fire on the Mountain," and we heard screams of "Play a cover!" Obviously not the crowd we were geared to play for.

We decided that it would be best if we just stopped and started to party, which we did.

About 2am, one of the girls who was throwing the party came running into the house crying that she was groped by some dude in the house next door. (It was kind of a block party) 10 min later there was a huge fight out in the street, maybe 20 vs 20. Horrible scene.

4am- everyone is starting to pass out and a few of us are trying to fall asleep in the basement. I was having a tough time sleeping on the floor with only my jacket, when I hear this exchange between a young drunk female and our drummer on the coach.

Girl: So, you're in the band?
drummer: yep
Girl: what instrument do you play?
Drummer: The drums
Loooooong pause....................

Girl: "You can't have a band without a drumer."
drummer: I guess thats true

I couldn't help it, and started laughing out loud at this girl. Our drummer heard me, and started laughing hysterically. The poor girl got up, started crying and left the basement.

I later apologized for ruining the hook up, but the drummer was just grateful that someone else heard what happened.

haha thats great.

poor girl though. Was she cute?

I'd giver her a 7 out of 10. :ninja:

And it is a weird story, and I have a ton of them from this band I played in. Some may have seen my post where the singer set up a hidden camera and video taped our reaction to his bowel movement on a piece of paper in front of the drums.
Our guitarist once spent 3 hours buying a hooker drinks, (not knowing her profession), and thinking he was smooth. He was later tackled by hotel security while running the halls naked, (there was a wedding party in the hotel at the time.)

I once drove from Illinois state university back to my house at 65 mph puking out my window the entire way. (2.5 hrs)

Once our singer and guitar player got into an arguement on stage that turned physical, and the drummer and I kept playing like nothing happened, even when they went outside to fight. The audience didn't know if they should watch the fight or stay with the music... This happened more than 3 times.
We were booed off the stage once because the drummer and guitarist almost drank a bottle of vodka each 1 hr before a show.

Once, we were playing a show, during a jam the singer ran off stage, grabbed a pitcher of beer, and jumped back on the stage. He chugged the entire pitcher ..while pointing at himself. He then looked around glassy eyed, got half way to the bathroom and puked all over the dance floor. The crowd cheered at first, not so much later. He was playing that show with a piece of twine as a guitar strap because he forgot his.

After a show, the band was outside smoking indian cigarettes. A patron walked out and said, "Man, smells like something strange out here." The guitarist replied, "Thats my sac." 3 on 2 fist fight occurs.

The band broke up when our sax player broke the singers nose during a fist fight. (also posted in another thread) This band was together for about 5 years, and I could go on forever. We often referred to ourselves as the Spinal Tap of the jamband genre.:atoz:

Here are some more quick ones..

Our band used to cover Pink Floyd Breath -> Time, one time we played it in a swing style at a show, and we were asked to leave the bar after the first set. The guitarist asked why, and the owner said, "Cause you just shouldn't cover floyd man, thats way off limits."

Another time we were playing the Beat Kitchen in Chicago. Weather was bad and no one came out, just two guys in their 40's and their wifes. Guitarist got discouraged and drunk, and at the end of the night quoted his favorite Tenacious D line to the crowd-- "Lookin out in the crowd, I see a lot of possible backstage Bettys tonight!" The guys got real pissed, had words with us, then left. We played the rest of the night for the bartender.

For a Halloween show, we all dressed in disguises and opened for ourselves. We played under the band name, "Incognito." This was the same night I almost got jumped by the coke heads in the bathroom. (from another thread)

Our drummer worked for a courier/delivery service, and we got to use their company vans for free. One time, the van had a hospital bed in the back that he had to drop off on the way back from out of town. After the show, a girl took an interest to me, and agreed to go back to our hotel. She came out to get a ride with us, and our drummer opened the back doors. The girl took one look at the bed in the back, and declined to hang out anymore. :bawl:

We had a special ending we used when we were feeling saucey. We would let the end of a song ring out, then we would all hit the same chord synchronized with the drummer banging the crash. We would start out slow, then creshendo and speed up the hits until we got super fast, then let the chord ring out again. We would repeat this over and over, one time for about 15 min straight. The crowd would cheer at first then get pissed, and finally start to laugh. Kinda Andy Kaufmann - esqe.

Our singer lived with our drummer and the drummers mom when we first moved up to chicago from college. He lived in their basement and racked up a $580 internet porn bill, which the drummers mom had to ask him repeatedly to pay.

Our singer was arrested for a gas-and-go.

Our singer disappeared with a girl after a gig. He spent the night at her place, and we drove home. He was sure he could get a ride back, and he couldn't. He called a cab, and had him drive to a local mall where he returned a jacket that he bought a week before. He used that money to pay for the cab ride and made it back home. The jacket, by the way, was a black leather jacket with cow shoulders. (Cowhair in the black and white pattern. He wore it with a cowboy hat)

Over the years, our singer lost every piece of equipment he used at one time or another. Guitar, strap, amp, chords, tuner, everything. After he lost his guitar, the band pitched in and bought him another one. He pawned it and bought the aforementioned jacket.

Thats it for now
