Boss DR-3/Alesis sr-16

Hi, has anyone got one of these? Are they any good for practice? I would like a drum machine for practice as I get bored with a metronome, any other suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.
By the way I am technophobe.

I have the Boss DR-3. The biggest problem with it for a bass player is that all the preset styles have a bass line included with them that has to be turned OFF. And it is very intimidating to use. Not easy to set up at all. Flexible, but the flexibility has its price.

My band leader has a Alesis SR-16, and it has its issues as well.....no bass line, but you apparently can't change time signature, it's 4/4 all the way.
