Boss GEB-7 Equalizer

Hey guys!

I'm new to this forum, first of all, just thought I'd drop that in.

But to the point to avoid off-topic;

I just received my first equalizer pedal. Now, some of you may find this stupid, but I'm pretty clue-less as to how it actually works. Only reason I bought it, is that a lot of the time, the EQ on my Fender Rumble 60W doesn't seem to give me very nice tones, and after looking around searching "How to get a good bass tone" etc, I found that a lot of people were saying that an equalizer pedal/piece of quit, is one of the key elements.

Anyways, what should I do with the EQ on my amp when using the pedal? I've noticed the pedal doesnt sound that full of life, also bear in mind my volumne on my amp is busted at Max, I know it's bad for the speakers, but no guitar shop (well, there's only two) in close enough region to get the amp too, can repair it =/

Also, any good settings, if you own one, describe them so I can try them out? Greatly appreciated.

Oh oh. One final off-topic question again, (Sorry to be a pain!), anyone got a good idea for a new amp top price region is say, £250? Or just force myself to buy a new Fender, even with busted volumne, it's been pretty solid.

the eq pedal really only needs to be used for what your amp cannot do. If your amp can't boost or a cut a certain frequency you're looking for, than that's where the eq pedal will come in. It's not really going to shape your tone, it's just going to boost or cut the certain frequencies you want. People usually use them to boost back in the lows after a series of pedals (like muffs) that tend to cut the lows. Vice versa, if say you have a part in a song that you need to really get gritty and cut through on, you can have a temporary mid/high boost, to push you into that frequency.

I think a good description of an eq pedals job would be, that it doesn't really shape your tone, but helps place your bass tone within the correct sonic space in a band setting.
