Who still uses the GT-10B?

I’m thinking on going multifx again. But going the Helix or Zoom way is expensive. And I’ve already have the GT-10B. It has the same advanced features the new multifx have. And the two channels are something I like to use.

do I have any real advantage to buy one of these new units? Or do I need to go and tweak and learn more on the Boss?

It does NOT do overdrive or distortions well. I’ve never heard a multi-effect that does those with any degree of satisfaction.

In any event, it’s worth learning the thing thoroughly before deciding you need something else.

That’s the path I’m going. I want to go ampless. Sold the heavy SVT stuff, and I’m in need of some effects on this new project I have. Besides the GT10B I have a VT Bass Deluxe (good overdrive pedal and DI) and a Sadowsky Outboard Preamp (good clean DI and amazing tone shaping). I like to send two signals to the FOH, one wet and on dry and mixing those to taste so I never loose the low end.

The GT-1000 had replaced it, the GT-1000 bass amp models are much better, but the effects in the GT-10B are still very capable.
Maybe run a preamp pedal in the S/R Loop if the GT-10B preamps don't get you where you want,
I hear the new ToneX (tone capture) pedal is very good at bass preamps and drives.

I have now moved on the the Boss SY-1000 (same preamps as the GT-1000 + a few more), which works efn fantastic on bass.

Something I do with mine is this: I only use five presets - not manufacturer presets, of which I use zero, but my own. I don’t need/have fifty different sound configurations! I have a Zep-Heartbreaker preset for example, and by clicking off the rotary emulation it functions as a good general arena rock bass sound. I have an envelope filter preset, and three others. So I’ve replicated that bank of five up and down the entire user bank! So I’m never in a scenario where I’m forty clicks away from the sound I want; I’m always two or fewer clicks away.

I agree with those who say the manufacturer preset bank should be able to be deleted, or at the very least ‘hidden’ so that you don’t accidentally land on the Metal Master preset when you’re going through settings onstage.

The GT/SY 1000 amps are more reactive to playing dynamics, more like a tube amp, some amp models can get grittier the harder you dig in.
This is the Amp model list of the SY-1000, a mix of guitar and bass models.
The Preamp also has "SAG" and "RESONANCE" controls to emulate tube compression.

Yes. We understand. You are looking for better things for you. But I hope I can revive this topic. And see how still uses the GT-10B nowadays. And the tricks they use to fully take advantage of what we have.

Maybe this can be interesting, a collection of tips & tricks (in PDF format) from various forums on the GT-8. Yes, even older than the GT-10B but a lot of the GT stuff is the same in all its incarnations (for example the 'assigns'). It really inspired me to get the best out of the GT-8 when I was using it for bass (GT-8 has drive clean blend and parallel amps..). For example, it taught me how I could use 'Tone Modify' (also present on GT-10B) to get a more lively tone.

Looped the GT-10b set to line/headphones output through my mixer and used the Auto EQ feature of the mixer to adjust the amp models controls to as flat as I could get each one of them. You may or may not like the flat settings, but it’s a good place to start and the amp models sound much more authentic to me in my rig. From there I’ve been playing around with the MIC location settings on each model and there is a lot to choose from to achieve my tonal goals.
Here’s the settings for the amp models that I worked on. Be sure and set the GT-10b output back to an amp setting if you are running through your bass amp. Give them a try and let me know what you think.

So here's our annual back from the grave moment...

So after putting together a smallish pedalboard over the past year, and putting away the GT-10B 'for good' - I had to pull it back out for a few things. One being a few good with an artist that's started doing a few cover sets, and I needed a pitch shift for one tune... but then I also wound up getting somewhat frustrated with the lack of on the fly adjustability on a couple of effects at an R&B gig, that I really didn't anticipate.

Long story Long - I said F- it a few days ago and set up a quick patch for my Fleetwood Mac tribute gig tonight.

Just finished soundcheck and wow. I'm way happier with the sound I'm getting. I really anticipated this falling flat for a bunch of reasons... but, haha Nope!

Yep, and I don't see why it should. It has (almost) all time tested Boss effects in it and whole lot other tools to customise your sound and make it shine.

Given, its old tech and compared to newer ones, the out of the box sounds are a little bit dated, but as soon you spend at least a little time and tweak the thing yourself, it holds ground compared to all newer multis.

I’ve gutted patches and reset the thing back to factory settings multiple times in all the years I’ve had it, since 2006ish I think. It still sounds phenomenal. I’ve tried building pedalboards for what I need, but in the end, this thing just sounds better, is more adjustable, adaptable and is so simple to get a useable tone by just using the EZ Tone feature. It really helps to adjust the input gain -6 to -12 depending on the instrument used. It will help with how punchy the patches are when using the preamp modeling. I set mine up by going to the FX Chain, highlighting the guitar symbol and plucking the E string. From there, watch the input gain at the top of the screen and adjust the input gain until it is right at or just below the second bar on the meter. Everything will sound much better.

Oh yeah, I'm aware of all this... I'm on my second unit - had this one since 2014. Got the first one shortly after they came out on 2008 - maybe it was 2009 already... I think I sold it because I was worrying about hitting the Direct Outs with phantom power, but that really only lasted a year maybe. The 4 flights I had to take with a full pedalboard did me in, and I went back to it. It's what I've been using for nearly 10 years, other than a GT-1B I wanted for traveling super light - but that's a whole 'nother discussion.
